RoosterReviews,
Companion App; room for improvement
The app keeps a record of tournament gameplay only for a very brief period before erasing it (seemingly under 24 hours), and if you navigate away from the score page after a tournament is complete it is impossible to return to the page. I’d say the app would be infinitely more valuable if you were able to access tournament records to track your progress and the progress of opponents who’d played in events with you over a long period of time, such as a few months or a year. I doubt the score charts take up much data, perhaps at the very least you’d be able to store them on your phone as a downloadable image or pdf. Instead I find myself copying scores down in notebooks and considering taking awkward screenshots to record the stats. The app accomplishes it’s most minimal requirements to facilitate magic events but there is lots of room for improvement.
cfjigvjk,
Actually good
I mostly use this as a life counter and it’s great. They have some small features that really make a difference. Tracking commander damage, floating mana, infect, etc. is just one swipe away. Most other apps have a really clunky process to get to these features but it’s quite smooth in the companion app. When you subtract life, the screen shows another number that counts up which makes it easier to double check your math. You can save the life totals of the current game and pick up where you left off, which might be nice occasionally. The only thing that is missing is a dice roll feature but that’s ok. I’d use this over Lifelinker for sure.
06987,
Don’t play if you have limited time to play games each day
The new meta is players just wasting your time. I have limited time and just want to play a match or two before bed. But every match is just playing against someone who wants to waste your time and use the full length of the time clock each turn to get you to quit because you have less free time on your hands. The game itself is great but the perimeters allow people just to wast your free time that you’ve set aside. I just played played 3 best of 3 matches and quit all 3 because it was just people trying to waste my time for easy wins. I fold laundry and do other chores inbetween turns because it takes that long. Make a league for adults who have limited time and speed up the game clock so we can actually play. Do not download if you have responsibilities and your time is limited. Play deck A, only play against decks that counter deck deck A. So switch to deck B, you’ll only see decks that counter deck B. The matchmaking is not random, not in the list bit

Good, but missing key feature
I use this app to play tournaments at my local game store. It’s nice to see the standings updated every round, but they go away so quickly. You are not able to view the standings the next day or ever again. I want to see how I did the past few times that I played. Also, I got second place at my local game store which meant I got a free entry the next time, but I went back and forgot my prize card that shows I had a free entry. I was unable to show that I got second place because there is no history as the standings get deleted as soon as the tournament is over. It feels a bit ridiculous that you can’t see who won previously. I also just want to remember which peoples decks did well. They should add a history of the tournaments you have played in with the standings
Will I R,
Great App to stay involved, but minor pain points
A great multifunction app that keeps you connected to the Magic scene. Stays up to date with new cards, offers search functionality, shows local upcoming events, and helps run said events. Pain points include the search functionality not being 100% accurate based on search terms, and/or what the different filters do not being completely clear in some cases, and you are unable to close the app during a tournament or it ejects you. There was a bug I noticed too when I tried to use the life point tracker in a match and had to force close due a UI problem, and did not understand the specifics on the backend to explain. It was also a while ago.
USA_isInTrouble,
Missing cards
Fun but not worth spending money as it is very glitchy. I have opened packs and received cards only to not find them nor use them in a collection and cannot use them in any decks pretty stupid . I was thinking of actually spending money on this game but after what happened I don’t think I will waist my money as this game is not guaranteed to provide what it offers…. You guys can contact me and check your syslogs to see where this error is occurring as it has affected a lot of ppl you should read on the internet peoples complaints as they are exactly the same as mine
-Superprime-,
Pardon the pun, but this is Magic
For context, I only drafted once on Arena about 3 years ago before finally doing so again in person with my friends and some strangers at Friday night magic at a comic book store.

As crappy as I was, I didn't really mind who or what I was going against because ultimately it was such a seamless and smooth experience that I was more interested in how everything worked. It's amazing just having an app that tracks and you can double check instead of relying on a pen and paper honor system. Such an amazing app
dont spoil the score please,
Useful app
Overall the app works great. Easy to use. Especially nice for life counts for commander games etc.

Would love the option to push a button and have the app select a random card for me to look at like the old web page feature from gatherer. Found many a good card from that function in the past. Would be a great way to kill time while waiting for a bus etc.
icypawn,
One point of fault
This app is mainly used for the counter, to help track life amounts during games, and the card database.

The card database is truly helpful often by teaching how a card really works in the lower section called “Rulings”. However, these Rulings are always printed at least twice! It’s just honestly uncomfortable when the text begins its repeat.

The rulings make the game tons more enjoyable bc they allow cards to be correctly played. Often, a hidden, to me, feature of a card will surface while reading the rulings! That’s quite fun! But, at the same time, small frustration also surfaces each time I discover that I’m wasting time reading the repeated text.

So, it seems wise to memorize the first ruling, and then purposely quit reading once the memorized text repeats. That is doable and also troubling.

Wizards, please remove all the repeats of rulings. Thank you.
Hypersonic Dragon,
Card Viewer needs work.
The card viewer is flat out disappointing. There are several cards whose view is replaced by an art card that isn’t even of that card for example. It also lacks the thorough searching that the Gatherer has.

Honestly I’d be perfectly fine with just ignoring the app and just using it for my LGS.

The reason I’m bothering with the negative review however is that every single time I open up the gatherer on mobile, it has a pop up of sorts attempting to say “Gatherer works better in the companion app!” Aside from that being false, the issue is that if you happen to scroll before the pop up arrives, it freezes your screen and the ability to pull up your tabs or search bar, forcing you to leave and reenter the website just to reload the page.

Seriously, until companion is actually better than the real Gatherer, don’t shove it in our faces.
