Description

mySleepButton® is a CogSci Apps® invention designed to help you fall asleep. It’s so easy: Just lie in bed, touch the “Put Me to Sleep” button, imagine the various descriptions it reads to you, and let yourself fall asleep… pleasantly. That is the Cognitive Shuffle! It's based on Dr. Luc P. Beaudoin's research on sleep onset, insomnia and the architecture of the human mind. Beaudoin is Adjunct Professor of Cognitive Science and Education at Simon Fraser University (BC, Canada).

O, The Oprah magazine, calls mySleepButton “An easy little game to trick yourself to sleep.” Oliver Burkeman of The Guardian wrote: "My top recommendation remains the visualisation method known as the “cognitive shuffle”: download the MySleepButton app". Quartz says mySleepButton is “a drug-free sleep trick for your restless mind”. International Business Times says “mySleepButton App Hijacks Thoughts to Help Sleep”.

Into mindfulness meditation? mySleepButton also contains a configurable "affective body scan" meditation pack. It applies research on the brain's body maps. Still awake after the meditation? Instantly proceed to guided shuffled imagery.

You can try mySleepButton for FREE! There's no subscription fee. Buy the pack(s) that you like, and shuffle your thoughts to sleep.

mySleepButton is designed to keep your mind off your concerns while putting it in the imagery rich process in relevant ways similar to normal sleep onset.

mySleepButton can also be triggered with Air Pods and played on Apple's Home Pod (or other devices) if you don't want an iPhone or iPad in your bed room. It even has Siri shortcuts.

Need to know more? mySleepButton/Beaudoin's Cognitive Shuffle R&D was also featured in the Canadian Government’s Institute of Health Research, The BC Medical Journal online, Popular Science Magazine ("Some things are just...better"), Forbes Magazine ("disrupt all patterns and rest in blissful chaos"), LifeHacker ("surprisingly effective"), The New York Times, and too many other places to list here. Check out http://mySleepButton.com for testimonials, a great blog, more press coverage, and explanations of what lies behind mySleepButton. You'll also find links to research presented by Beaudoin and colleagues at the World Sleep Congress in Sept 2019 and elsewhere.

mySleepButton is the easiest, pleasantest, most imaginative solution for sleep.

So, why not enjoy a dreamy transition to sleep? “Shuffle Your Thoughts to Sleep” with mySleepButton.

2016-06-28
mySleepButton® version 1.4 contains yet another CogSci Apps Invention that combines cognitive science and technology to improve your well being and productivity! We have added what might be the world's first configurable "body scan" mindfulness meditation pack meant to help you prepare for sleep.

With this pack, you can
1. set the direction of the body scan (top-down, bottom-up),
2. exclude certain regions of your body from the scan,
3. include a focused body scan, which zeroes in on a particular region of your body that needs special attention,
4. configure the speed of the scan,
5. tap into your brain's mapping of your peripersonal space, and
6. double-click the middle headset button to move onto a cognitive shuffle pack.

"Body scanning" is a mindfulness meditation recommended by many psychologists. We call this an _affective_ body scan because it might help you accept and regulate your moods and emotions.

This new pack has a natural (human) female voice.

This version of mySleepButton also includes updated tutorials and various minor fixes.
1.3.3
2015-10-25

3. Enhancements and changes to improve stability.

# Enhancements

* Updated French tutorials.
* Added more guidance in the UI.
* Translated privacy policy and Terms and conditions in French.

# Bug Fixes

* Fixed a number of issues regarding the downloading and restoring of packs, including a crash, that were due to them being quite big (i.e., we provide a lot of content for a very low price). Significantly changed the way packs are handled. As a result, when you install this version, your old packs will be removed from the app and you will need to download new versions of the packs. To do this, please use the "Restore/Update Purchases" button at the top of the packs screen. The packs are big, therefore this may take a while, so please keep mySleepButton in the foreground during the download.
* Prevented a situation in which the pack button would be disabled after a download failure.
* Added "Touch to Retry" after pack purchase failure.
* Fixed a rare condition in which the display of a mySleepButton pack's status on the Mode screen ("trial") could differ from the status of the same pack on the Packs screen ("installed").

# Other changes

* Updated Legal Terms and Conditions page, per http://mysleepbutton.com/legal/app-terms-and-conditions/
* Updated documentation to reflect changes in mySleepButton 1.2.2 pertaining to voice gender and speaker.
* Other documentation changes.
* Updated the feedback form.

Blakent,
shutting out the brain chatter.
I have trouble sleeping when I need to. Before I got this app, I thought I had to thoroughly exhaust myself in order to sleep when the rest of the world sleeps. My brain yapped at me until I was too tired to think, which might be about 5 AM. That stinks when you have to wake up at 5:30 for school. Now, I use my sleep button. I have literally never gone through the whole timer without falling asleep. I even experimented with reducing the time by 1 minute every night, so night 1 is 30min, night 2 is 29, etc. I got down to 16, before I kinda unconsciously noticed it stopping, so that was the point I was almost gone but not quite. I don't use it every night, but when the brain is chatty, especially if I have a pressing need to wake up on time, it's the way to go. I feel like the time between images has increased, which is annoying, but that's a minor gripe. I have been blind since birth, so I find the scenes pack hard to visualize. Too many moving parts. I love using the simple things pack, and I imagine the items as experienced with other senses. It says a loaf of bread, I vividly imagine picking up a loaf of bread, long and rough, and biting and tasting it. This works just as well as it does for visual thinkers, though scenes are too much for too little time and trying to relax. I had major doubts at first, but this is my favorite mental exersize.
naokobella,
Best sleep aid
I have a very hard time falling asleep because I can’t stop my mind from wandering off or from racing with thoughts about the day or what I need to get done tomorrow. But this app has significantly helped me to stop my mind from keeping me awake for hours. I use it every night without fail, and fall asleep before the time is up. I like how you can choose the amount of time you want the images to play for and the time between images. Just wish there was a way to change them up so I’m not imagining the same images over and over and get used to them. Very grateful to the creators of this app.
LibbyMpls,
I can’t believe it works
This is the first sleep app that has worked for me and I’ve tried many. I often have racing thoughts at night that keep me awake, but this app and this method allow me to turn them off enough to fall asleep. It’s amazing to say the least- I tell everyone about it. I’ve been having two issues, however. I haven’t been unable to figure out why, but for the last few nights, the sound stops before the timer is even halfway through. I can’t hear any words or scenes but if I look at my phone I can see the timer still counting down. Also, if I close the app (because I have to get up or something) and then try to start again, the timer begins at where I left off instead of resetting itself. So, if I stopped it with 12 minutes left, closed the app and restarted it again I’d only have 12 minutes on the timer instead of 20. I’ve read that some people have to restore their purchases every night so I’ll try that tonight, but it’d be ideal if the app worked every time without having to do so.

Excellent Distraction for a Busy Mind
This app has revolutionized my ability to fall asleep. Distracting my mind using the mental images suggested in the “Scenes” pack has proven itself to be a perfect sleep induction strategy. I’m not only falling asleep more quickly, but am able to get back to sleep in the middle of the night with greater ease than I have in years. The female voice describing the scenes is pleasant and easy to understand. The “Simple Things” pack is a great addition to “Scenes” to switch things up. This outstanding app is fully supported up by its developer who has been extraordinarily helpful. I highly recommend this application to anyone who struggles with insomnia.
El Bufordo,
My lifesaver on wakeful nights
I usually fall asleep quickly, but about one night out of every ten, my brain is whirling with work issues, family concerns, the chaotic state of the world, etc etc etc. When it looks like it’s going to be one of those nights, MySleepButton is my go-to remedy for calming my overactive brain and putting me into a good place to drift off to dreamland. It’s saved me from many a sleepless night.

Bonus points to CogSci Apps for great customer support when a recent iOS update caused MySleepButton to stop working. They kept me in the loop via direct emails and let me know when the relevant update was published to the App Store. Kudos!
Sikozu61123,
THANK YOU FOR THIS APP!!!!
I have had difficulties falling asleep all of my life because my brain is just too active. Having tried a multitude of different medications, apps and various methods This the *only* one I have found to consistently work for me. Somehow my body fights even prescription medications and I end up still being awake for hours. I’ve tried apps like calm, but my brain goes into ADD overdrive and starts asking questions about the stories or ends up spiraling into odd tangents. I have never encountered anything quite like this solution and recommend it to anyone who has an overactive mind when trying to get to sleep
user13245364,
The BEST
I’ve never been able to fall asleep within 15 minutes of laying down. That being said I would have to get in bed 30 minutes before I would want to go to sleep. This app changed that. I use it every night and it has never failed. Sometimes I'm asleep within 5 minutes. It’s the BEST.
moozikluvr,
Works but audio levels are uneven
I like this app; it works. It puts me to speed. BUT, I find I have to constantly adjust the volume as the recorded words seem to be at different levels of loudness. The app will be working in that after a few minutes I’m out in a state where I’m about to head off to sleep, but the next works will be mound enough to basically startle me enough so I’m very awake again. I think If when recording the words the person used a mike baffle it would alleviate this issue.
Elizabeth Griffin,
Not working w/update
I have never had an issue until the most recent iOS update. I even tried to purchase another pack, only for it to never work. I didn’t realize how much I relied on this app until I couldn’t use it! Been checking multiple times a day for an update, hopefully it will be fixed soon.
Jshrudjtkfmf,
Make sure you pay extra for the “human” voice!
I bought the synthetic voice option since it’s a little cheaper, and regretted it almost instantly. It’s so distracting it actually keeps me awake! Some words are so badly mangled I can’t understand them at all, others are pronounced so hilariously wrong I end up giggling into my pillow. Either way, hard to focus! I believe this app does work - the free trial was great - but sadly I just wasted my money on an unusable version of it.
