Beth in Louisville, KY,
Very useful & gets easier to use over time
I have been using this ap for nearly a week after my gastroenterologist suggested I keep a food and symptom diary. I don’t want to have to do this but if I am going to invest the time, I want to have useful data. This ap allows a lot of individualization, both of data type as well as granularity. It is taking a little longer to figure out how to optimally use than a less customizable ap but I greatly appreciate having this flexibility.
So, e.g., if I want to list only 2 items for a day, such as “coffee” and “heartburn” I could do that. Or if I want to list detailed ingredients and quantities and exact times with free text comments in multiple categories, I can also do that. If over time I realize I need to go more or less granular or add or subtract a category, I can do that. After using for a few days, the selectable entries became much quicker as the ap defaults to listing prior entries as available selections for subsequent days. If you are like me, you are taking some of the same meds and supplements and eating many of the same foods each day. I don’t have enough data yet for extensive analysis yet but look forward to exploring these features more as well. There is a wealth of information available here, so far it has been well worth the time I have invested.

So impressed
This is the first time I’ve EVER reviewed an app, because it’s the first
time I’ve ever been so impressed! The functionality is amazing— so much more than you’d expect for an inexpensive little app. The ability to toggle on/off certain configurations / ways the algorithm works / analysis period to find top suspects— is evidence of the care and pride into this app. I could not believe when I went on vacation, the times of each entry changed for that day, so I didn’t have to do any more work (ie, pretending to be on a different timezone that day) so my “X hours after” ingestion values weren’t wrecked— it just worked, without any human adjustment needed! Clearly someone has thought long and hard about every scenario, and taken steps to address it in the app. I think the ability to either create a new recipe or replace all previous instances of the recipe with your new entry is essential, and without it, I doubt the results would ever be accurate. Basically I’m blown away by this app!!!! I should note that I find technology intuitive in general. If you want a more beginner’s app, and you’re willing to trade functionality for ease of learning the app, maybe you’d want to choose a different one. Personally I’m so glad I didn’t. This app rocks!!!

Most excellent tool to manage my symptoms!
i downloaded a week ago, after 3 successive disappointing experiences with similar apps. when trying to register initially last Sunday, i did not notice the password requirements, and failed numerous times. I asked by email for help, which was immediately answered on the first hour on Monday! amazing customer service and follow up care , exceptional company!! All being wonderful, i started using it, and here’s the real amazement:- it’s probably the most comprehensive, smart, beautifully designed and well-thought app out there. Being a systems analyst myself, i naturally tried to test/challenge/trick and find the problems or things lacking with the app...:). WOW AND BRAVO guys, superb achievement, you need to be proud of your work, it tremendously helps people like me with real bad lifelong symptoms of a disease that must be controlled by using such a tool that keeps track of everything so perfectly. Best thing about it is it’s simplicity and ease to amend, correct, add data backdated, improve our records, and even add new items that currently do not exist in the database. Thank you developers, great job!!
Fasterwheels,
Perfect app for what I need it for!
I was recently diagnosed with gastroparesis, a chronic and awful condition where your stomach doesn’t work the way it’s supposed to and food is delayed from Emptying into your intestines due to lack of motility. Was told to write down the foods I eat and symptoms they cause. To keep a journal. So I went searching for an app so I could do it on my phone as that is much easier than lugging around a notebook. I was delighted when I found this app. I thought maybe I would find an app that came a little close but that I would have to repurpose it for my need. But this app is exactly what I needed. It’s wonderful. And I love that I can track medications as well since we are having to try different ones. And then the PDF that I can send to my doctor or print out is just the bees knees. Thank you a million times for making this app. It’s awesome. I may recommend it to my fellow friends in an online support group I’m a part of. 10K Strong. I bet they will love this app as much as I do. 💜💜💜🤗🙏🙌👾👽😻
PhayBells,
Really versatile!
I love this app because I can track just about anything. With IBS-C, it can be very difficult to pin down what causes flare-ups, and while I JUST started using it, I can already see some interesting correlations in just a few days of tracking. The “Other” category is really important, too, because I can use it to track things like where I am in my cycle, or when I ride public transit (which can give me motion sickness as times). I’d ask the developers to include a way for women to track the very basics of their cycles because of how much it can relate to digestive symptoms, but I understand you can’t add everything to one app, and again, I can just use the “Other” category. Looking forward to the day that more foods are added to the database, but I’m happy to be contributing as I go!

Confusing interface
Basically decent app but frustrating to use. There are many redundant listings for single food items and if I happen to choose a different example from the list than I did the last time they get counted as two separate items which messes up the analysis. I tried to just make my very own list to control the choices so I only ever see the exemplar I used before but it was almost impossible. I don’t care if it takes a while to create my own library of items if I could do it and never see the list of every entry other users have used. Otherwise the developers need to curate the list so if I choose a basic item from the list it is always the same thing. I turned out to have “flax seed” as well as “Flax seeds” as two separate items. I couldn’t remember which one I had used 2 weeks earlier. That’s incredibly frustrating. I get so aggravated that I’ve stopped using the app. Also it would be better to be able to look for correlations between symptoms as well. It should be possible to look for correlations between any category of data and any other.
UghLina,
Wish I didn't get this app
Tried to find a food diary and symptom diary to keep track during my FODMAPs diet. This was the first one I found so I got it. DON'T PURCHASE THIS APP. The UI is VERY confusing, and took me time to figure out how to use. I had to manually enter every single one of my foods and supplements, because somehow their database didn't have basic items like Oolong Tea and Probiotics. I lost my progress a bunch of times because of the confusing UI (it slows you to enter another food at the same time as you're filling out fields to enter a different food. Totally unnecessary and just makes it confusing). The design on the check items makes no sense (you're only allowed to press the literal check, and not the entire line or the name of the food). The tutorial was useless an didn't help me get a first grasp on the usability of the app. SAVE YOUR TIMR AND MONEY and download Cara instead. I found it after not believing this **** is the best thing out there and was so surprised to find a good app for free to do the exact same thing. If the app developers want to get it together they should run a user group and hire a real UI/UX designer instead of trying to build an app without paying attention to the inbox and user. Boooooo.
Molly23232!,
Most robust option out there
First time I have reviewed an app because this one is so necessary for anyone with chronic health issues. It is the most robust, flexible and sophisticated option for tracking symptoms and getting analytics to help you find correlations. As with anything like this, the data is only as good as what you enter, e.g. to get really good data, you have to keep religiously entering information when you’re not having symptoms.

I really hope they continue to improve the app and add more automation. I would especially like to see options to import data from Apple Health, Watch and other apps, e.g. automatic logging of environment events based on location and weather data. Nonetheless, it’s a phenomenal app and very helpful if you are diligent about data entry.
mjbuzzy,
Unable to synchronize data between devices
I just started using the app, and I like it. It's a bit clumsy to input some of the data needed, but a lot of info is in their database. The stuff that's not takes a bit of a learning curve to create, and its done ONE STEP AT A TIME. But I'm betting that once the majority of info is inputted, it will be much easier for me.
My biggest grip, at this time, is that i can't synchronize my data between my iphone and ipad. I just (maybe stupid on my part) assumed that I would be able to use whichever device is handy to input my data. And I DEFINITELY TO NOT WANT TO INPUT NEW DATA TWICE!!.
I emailed the company about this issue and will get back to this review to update it when I get their response.
Besides that, I believe it to be (while initially clumsy to get data into the database that is not presently there) a good app that will help me figure out the foods and symptoms correlation.

You may not want to UPDATE YOUR APP
This app worked fine until I did the most recent update that has a cloud backup. I could not back up successfully to the cloud because it currently only allows up to 64 characters for an item. I had to modify my item name to something shorter than what I originally input so that I could sync. The developer discovered this after I contacted them for help when my sync failed every time. I got quick and helpful assistance by emailing the company.

The cloud backup is only to allow syncing between devices. You can’t sign in to the cloud data in a PC to review or edit.
It is still possible to email yourself the data as a safety mechanism to ensure data isn’t lost from the app once you’ve signed up for cloud syncing, but it’s not obvious and there are currently not directions for how to do so in the User Manual or in the FAQ.
