Description

Oticon Companion provides you with discreet, improved control over your hearing aids – so you can personalize your listening experience for any environment, the ability to find your hearing aids if they become lost, remote support from your hearing care professional when you need it, and much more.

With Oticon Companion, you can:

• Adjust the volume of your hearing aids and various settings (e.g. remote microphone, noise reduction, and streaming equalizer)
• Switch between predefined programs according to the different listening situation you are in
• Monitor your battery levels
• Help you find your hearing aids if you lose them
• Use SpeechBooster to reduce background noise and enhance speech when you need to focus on conversation.
• Use your device as a remote microphone and get better access to the voice of another speaker in noisy environments
• Use the streaming equalizer for a personalized listening experience. The streaming equalizer is available for all Oticon Bluetooth® hearing aids except Oticon OpnTM and Oticon Siya
• Have your hearing aids adjusted and receive counseling from the comfort of your own home – via a live video call with your hearing care professional
• Handle wireless accessories paired with your hearing aids; control multiple TV Adapters or devices, such as Oticon EduMic or ConnectClip, which can be used both for streaming and as a remote microphone

The Oticon Companion App is compatible with all Oticon Bluetooth hearing aids. Depending on the hearing aids and the mobile device you are using, you may or may not have access to all features the app offers.

We recommend using the latest version of iOS.

RgrRbt,
Mix’s bag this time
The new app is more powerful, offering the ability for remote care - a wonderful idea for those who cannot easily get to a provider. The downside is that the boot up time of the app is mind numbingly long. This does not make it much use when I want to change something and totally useless if I have not activated the app but want to use the watch app. Battery levels- finally I can change when it tells me the level. I never cared about 50/40%. But then you take away the spoken level ? Is that because you only had English? Surely there is a text to speech multi-lingual api you can tap into without bloating. I am unsure whether to keep going with this or go back to the oticon on app. At least until you remove that to push companion. Please don’t.

Developer response is still 50-50. Why drop spoken battery levels? Chimes are not very detectable. Fishing the slow boot can be done by backgrounding the rarely used(by consumer) boot up of the remote are.
Don’t turn it on until consumer requests it.

Could be better
I have the Oticon real aids. The app works pretty good but sometimes when it tries to re-acquire the connection one aid will not connect so you have to restart the app. The Apple Watch app cannot be placed on the default face of the watch but can be found on the crown with all the other mini icons. There is a lack of tone control except for streaming. Occasionally, there is a need for some light tweaking to temporarily adjust to a specific situation. I find doctors offices very challenging especially with high women’s voices. Have yet to find a program that will adjust to this without tweaking but you can’t really do much with just volume controls. Would also like to see a create your own program feature or more then 4 slots for preset programs. TV streamer is good but the pocket microphone needs more noise reduction ability.

Hearing aids are disconnected constantly
Every time I open the app to adjust volume or change the program I have to reconnect, even when I connected a few minutes before. This just happened: I put my aids on. A few minutes later, I needed to adjust the volume. I opened the app, the aids were not connected, so I put them back in the charger, put them back on my ears, and connected in the app. A few minutes after that, I decided to watch TV and opened the app to change the program so I can better hear the TV. I had to reconnect the hearing aids again. Other Bluetooth devices I use with my iPhone do not do this.

Reconnecting works best by putting the hearing aids back in the charger and then removing them, but the charger isn’t always available. Using the buttons on the aids themselves does not consistently reconnect them to the app. I do close the app by double-clicking it at least once daily. Sometimes that helps, sometimes it doesn’t.

A few comments
As a graphic designer I appreciate the more contemporary look of the new Companion app. However, the bold magenta volume control against a sea of white background is too striking to be used discretely. The gray and magenta combo as used in the Oticon On app would be better or the app needs to have the option to be run in ‘dark mode’. If I’m in a public setting, dining with a group, at the theater, etc. I wish to access the app discretely to make adjustments.

My other issue, which has already be documented by others, is the unacceptably long loading time the app requires. It makes the app totally unusable in everyday use. Until this issue is resolved I have no choice but to use the Oticon On app.
MDCS,
Nice!
I am liking the new app! The only thing I really enjoyed was “hearing fitness”. It registered how much time each day I wore my hearing aids. Definitely a plus and something you should add back. My only other problem is switching my “more” hearing aids between my iPad and my iPhone. By default, they should be connected to my phone. But it seems that the app goes in alphabetical order (pad comes before phone). And the hearing aids stay attached to the iPad until I turn off Bluetooth on My iPad (which I don’t want to do… other things need Bluetooth!) as soon as I turn Bluetooth back on on the iPad, the hearing aids switch back to the iPad. So, I deinstalled the iPad app and will use Bluetooth headphones instead until this gets fixed.

Decent improvement from update but could use more
I used both the Oticon ON app and the Companion app and they both needed a serious update. I am very happy that they listened to feedback and added an Apple Watch app along with the ability to change programs, mute when needed, and added a battery notification option in the app. My only complaint is that the complication for the Apple Watch only displays for certain Watch faces. It’s a little annoying considering I like to switch depending on my activities for the day but overall, an improvement from the last version.

Why So Clunky
I really liked Oticon On and recently updated to this new version, Companion. Today, I deleted it and reverted back to On.

I had a remote session with my hearing provider and there were several issues with using it including not being able to hear each other during the appointment. That’s right, a hearing appointment where I couldn’t hear them and they couldn’t hear me. As a work around, we sent messages to each other.

The Bluetooth connection with the new app isn’t even as good as the old app (and it was minimally acceptable) when listening to music. The signal drops and the sound is garbled. Add to that the inability to add the app to my Apple Watch face and I don’t see any improvements for my use. I’ve grown accustomed to being able to change hearing programs with a discrete touch of the watch face in meetings so this was a major negative for me.

Frankly, I’m very surprised at the technical issues with this app from a technology company specializing in electronic consumer products.

If On goes away and there are no improvements in the new app, I’ll likely go with a different hearing aid in the future.

The Roundabout
I just downloaded this app and went into a continuous loop of pairing my hearing aids. They would pair and then the screen would go right back to the pair your hearing aids screen. So I deleted the app. Too bad it didn’t live up to its description because it sounded a lot better than Oticon On. 1/2 star

Edit: I actually followed the instructions and it worked. So I’ll give it 4 stars and myself 1/2 star. Lol
Suebee707,
Excellent customer service
I have not worn my hearing aids long enough to rate them, but I will say Oticon customer service is excellent. My aids are paired with an iPhone and I couldn't figure out how to stop my incoming calls from ringing directly into my hearing aids. I emailed customer service one evening and the very next morning Katarina from customer service had a detailed step by step process in my inbox.
Reborn a Mac,
Nice update
This update brings this app forward from its initial release. I like that you can decide the % battery alert (the old On app defaulted to 50%). The new Watch app that was added in this release looks much better the older On Watch App. The Companion Watch App allows for muting and Speech (sound) Booster from the Watch now as well.
