SteveJenO,
Awesome single player game - Needs multiplayer!!
Pacific Fleet is a fantastic game with plenty of challenge and replayability. There are endless combinations of fleets that you can use to approach different scenarios. It's also pretty compelling to build different capabilities with your ships. The only thing that keeps PF from being a five star game is the lack of a multiplayer mode. Given the game engine, it seems that this is an obvious omission. PF is a turn-based game, so it lends itself very well to a side-by-side "pass-the-iPad" multiplayer structure - like so many other turn-based strategy games. Playing a real human opponent would be a significant improvement and would give the game itself much more shelf life. Overall, though, great job by Killerfish Games on this one!!
Studylover,
LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, this is my second time I reviewed it first version 2.03 and now version 2.10 I cannot believe how much the game changed. I always look at the Facebook page ( the only reason l use Facebook ) and I at "started" it was planed as a tactical shooter and now a top-notch game. The explosions in versions below 2.0 had no sound, and always looked the same. Also you could only move 3 ways: move closer, move farther, or disengaged now you have 2 turns. One move and one to attack. Realism was a 7/10 but now it is a 9/10. Also I've heard there's gonna be a SEQUEL to PF. I've been going BONKERS waiting for the name of the game. PACIFIC FLEET II? MODERN FLEET? ATLANTIC FLEET? (British vs German and DO NOT make HMS Hood the battleship for the British because it had armor sides: MAX 12 inches and the deck only 2 inches in most places and 4 inches in very few places. Compared to the Bismarck which had side armor 12.6 inches and deck armor of 6.7 inches and it took 1 hr and 30 min to sink it. HMS Hood sunk only 6 min into the same battle the Bismarck was in so PLEASE put either HMS Prince of Wales or HMS Warspite Instead. PLEASE) but any way I love this game because of its realistic graphics and that it could be played almost anywhere (in the train, in the car, or even in the plane) this game is gonna be a mainstay on my iPad. PEOPLE WHO ARE READING THIS WHO ARE READING THIS WHO DON'T HAVE THIS GAME… BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
resin007,
Stellar game with one ruinous flaw
This game is a true achievement. I cannot speak highly enough about the graphics, the attention to detail, and the sheer depth of play. It's a truly immersive game that I might play again and again and again.
I say "might" because there is one flaw, but it's a big one. Most battles are sea engagements, but there is an occasional island level with your fleet vs land targets. These levels are extremely unintuitive, combining very difficult aiming with no damage meters and regenerating targets. You simply have no idea what's happening on an island level and no way of knowing if you are making any progress at all. It is deeply, deeply frustrating and not at all fun.
Bottom line: even a challenging sea battle is engaging and fun, but the island levels will make you want to delete the game entirely. Hopefully this will change in a future update, and this will become a true five-star game.
UPDATE: after weeks of practice and forum searches and even an email to the developer, I still cannot make heads or tails of island levels. I've stopped on level 36 and cannot make any progress whatsoever. This game is officially deeply unpleasant for me to play now, and I will be deleting it. A shame since I think this would be a fantastic game if this problem were addressed.
amallama,
Outstanding
This may be the first review of an app I've ever written...Pacific Fleet is so good that I feel it's my duty to spread the word. As others have said, the graphics, realism and attention to detail are terrific. And the variety of scenarios, vessels and escorts is great. One thing I want to make clear: the island battles are really not all that difficult once you figure out how to effectively bring naval gunfire (or close air support) to land-based enemy targets. Yes, the island battles are a bit non-intuitive and there is a learning curve, but that's part of the fun of the game. I'm not a gamer by any means but once I got the hang of the island battles, they're actually quite easy. Also I recommend going through each of the 40+ scenarios JUST with the submarine, then go back and add additional escorts and try the battles again (or simply start a new game). This way you will develop an excellent understanding of enemy tactics... and using just the sub is arguably the most challenging way to play the game. Lastly, there are a few useful player guides out there, just do a search.
rhe7021,
Excellent game with more opportunity.
Firstly, let me state that I have played this for over 3 years and it is absolutely magnificent. It has incredible graphics, historical ships, and detailed aircraft.
However, I think that this game can have more to offer. One of the problems with this game is that it has a very limited ship variety. In another one of your games, Atlantic fleet, with its amazing ship diversity it allows for diverse gameplay. And I would like to see more ships in this game as well.
For instance, a few suggestions for the U.S Pacific Fleet are the Yorktown Class, the New Orleans Class, the Arizona/Pennsylvania (as a tribute to Pearl Harbor) and/or, the Benson/Gleaves Class.
And as for the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN), I would suggest if possible, the Hiryu, Fubuki, or the Kuma.
So in conclusion, Pacific Fleet is an amazing game, but with more expansion, we could find ourselves playing a game much more diverse and interesting!
Timdaman52,
Realism
As for the graphics, they as advertised.
However, their are some major flaws.

If you are using a sub you have no way to measure the distance from your ship to target. You have no info on the range of torpedoes. This is a problem because in many of the scenarios, your targets are intentionally placed out of range but you will be forced to pick the closest target and fire. You will then watch the torpedo approaching the target and then it will suddenly disappear because it was out of range. Now you have one less torpedo and you have lost ground. The target is now further away and nearly out of reach. I also noticed that if an enemy ship is coming right at you at f speed and you fire only to find he is out of range and you try again and you find that the target is out of range even further. That is impossible in this ,and every other universe. The graphics are realistic, the action is not.
Bloklomstog,
Really fun but could be better
Lots of fun and worth the purchase price. A couple tweaks would make it great, though. Aircraft carriers are the weak link. They're never out of range of the battleships and one hit will render them useless for the whole battle. Playing this game you'd think WW2 was won by battleships, which it obviously wasn't. I'd make every carrier turn include like 3 planes attacking at once and put enough distance between carriers and then enemy ships so only aircraft would be able to reach them until well into the battle.

Also wish the computer opponent could be made harder as the computer is typically a pretty lousy shot and doesn't always employ smart strategy.
Vizzuleyes,
A truly EPIC game!
This game is by far the best game/sim that I have ever played on my iPad. It is absolutely perfect. Well worth the money. I hope they keep updating and PLEASE don't update to the point that us iPad 1 users can play. Many great games update to a higher IOS, there is no need here, it plays amazing on the first ever iPad. The only thing I wish would change are that the subs have very very short travel during game play, but for the quality of this game I can live with that. Another great update would be able to play American and Japanese campaigns at the same time instead of loosing your current game in order to switch sides. I truly can't wait to see what may be coming next.
MissouriDave,
Promising But Ridiculously Tedius
So far I have only played the submarine simulation. Graphics are great. Variety of actions awesome. Using the deck gun is trial and error, as there is range-finding capability. Erratic and dud torpedoes make the game tedious and frustrating. I'm aware of the pre-1943 torpedo problems, but this game takes it way too far. You can spend 10-15 minutes getting into position only to have about 80% of your shots swerve off course or fail to detonate. Ridiculous. Your option is to play a less challenging "no duds" game or somehow upgrade to TDC... I have yet to discern how this is achieved. As noted in other reviews, attacking land targets is a bit "hit or miss" (pun intended). Once you identify the key targets it is hard to maneuver the pointer to align air or sea attacks. Lining up dive-bomb attacks is also crazy hard.
Matt Service,
Great potential
I do love this game. However, it is frustrating to have the torpedoes stop a few feet away from their target. Seriously, I bring the sub and smallest ship along, and they start so far away, they can never hit anything. It's aggravating in the several missions before being able to buy bigger ships. Plus a carrier is useless in night combat. Should say something about that fact before buying that ship. I might have saved for a bigger destroyer first. Or make night flying an upgrade. Need torpedo upgrade for carrier planes also.

Would also love to see larger battles (more ships on each side), random single player battles, and even historical battles. How about a story line or at least notes about each confrontation.

These fixes would get five stars from me.
