MichLight,
Fantastic Coaches
(Update) - Been using this app for more than six months and seen a lot of improvement. Definitely works for me. Even had a recent injury from another sport and my coach was able to adjust things so I didn’t lose a lot of my gains. Never thought I’d complete a 5k and I now feel like I could do a 10k easily. Decided, instead of month by month, to just go with the full year. Running has become something i really enjoy. Who knew?

I agree with Lepetitmont. I used Nike up until the pandemic. I never could get Nike to
sync right and it simply won’t adapt or even record runs sometimes. I have unlimited data so it’s an app issue. I got really upset when it seemed they were far more interested in pushing product than making the app work. I just did a search and came across RunCoach and decided to give it a shot since my regular training at my gym wasn’t possible and I found myself running more. Run coach is far superior. It has pushed me to reach goals I didn’t think I could reach. Highly recommend. I find it can even handle the split training which Nike made it sound like it was impossible. No more running with my phone in my hand. Worth it just for that.

Favorite training app
I have been using runcoach now for 8 weeks. The free version. I’d previously used Nike app but found that frustrating, and at the time (this may have changed) it didn’t sync right with my Apple Watch, and I’d call Nike support... anyway I dumped the Nike app out of sheer frustration and just went back to logging workouts using the Apple Watch workout app which works, records everything I need...and this feeds into runcoach through HealthKit. And runcoach gives me the daily workouts based on my road race schedule, goal race, and fitness level. So I can improve fitness and speed while avoiding injury. Every now and then the app gets a little buggy, but the developers are super responsive so this hasn’t been an issue. I love it. It has really helped me, and motivates me to keep on target with training.
BowenG,
Solid training to increase endurance and speed!
Have been very pleased with this app so far as it provides some great plans/drills to help me build my endurance and speed for my upcoming races. The app could use some polishing to look more exciting and modern, however the formula works very well. I have my run data from strava integrated and this is pretty effective. Do wish they would add some type of heart rate intensity details to the tracking and plans. Wanted to share some real feedback as there only seems to be complaining in the comments. This is solid and don’t think there are any other competitors.

Love it
This is a great app for both new and experienced runners! I’ve been running for several years and had done 4 marathons before downloading this app. During my previous marathon training I just did training plans to get the miles in. Speed work, tempo runs, and threshold runs were always intimidating to me. After downloading the Runcoach app these runs became a normal part of my run schedule. The app does a great job explaining what each run is and even gives demo videos for the warm up drills. I just completed my 5th marathon using the Runcoach training plan, and I qualified for Boston!

Good coach feedback but very glitchy
Been using this for a few days now and pretty impressed with the feedback from the coach. I was planning on purchasing a subscription once my free trial is up, but the app itself has been glitching the last couple of the days to the point that I have not even accessed my training calendar. At first, it was a login issue and then this morning when I was finally able to log in, I still couldn’t see my training plan and when I try to hit the Coach button, the whole app crashes. Very frustrating. That said, not sure anymore if I will proceed with the subscription. This app is good in theory, but if you can’t get it to work, then there’s really no point.
jemaerca,
Great training app!
I don’t write reviews at all but I have to say that runcoach is amazing. You set a goal (a marathon, half-marathon, 10 mile, etc), the date of the race, input your race history, the days you can set aside for training, and the app creates a customized training program for you. You can put shorter races ahead of your main goal and it recalculated your training schedule. Try this app - you won’t be disappointed!
ClanCummings,
Doesn’t Sync Consistently
Honestly, I give it two stars because it’s the best training plan I’ve seen in an app, but the app itself seems about a decade behind. The interface is terrible. The run tracker doesn’t actually coach the training sessions. Worst of all, it doesn’t sync consistently. I tried Apple Health, and it misses sessions randomly and you never know when it will actually sync. To sync with runkeeper, you have to press the sync button manually, and the app does not tell you this or signal that a sync happened. Though it syncs the sessions, it doesn’t sync the total miles. I spent a month with support trying to fix these issues, but they were only run coaches and didn’t seem to know much about tech support. This app needs a new developer.

Outdated and Clunky
Training plans are not dynamic. Miss a week or two due to illness or injury? Too bad, the app still expects you to continue as if you dominated all workouts.

Training plans allow for no flexibility. You cannot swap scheduled workouts. For more complex workouts where the in-run audio tells you what to do (e.g., speed workout), you can only receive this guidance if you run the workout on the scheduled day. Can’t go back two days later and still receive the audio guidance.

App looks 10 years old, is clunky, slow, and has more than a few glitches. Plus no route mapping capability. Lame all around.
ATLGamer21,
Terrible on boarding and app
Boarding did not go well.

Signed up online. Immediately after setting my User name and password, it said that there was a mismatch. I had to reset my password twice to be able to login. Then I was asked to sing with Strava. Which I did, after which I was presented with a blank white screen.

I switched to the app and figured maybe it was better to proceed this way. But it seems like the app is primarily just webpages, set to look like a native app. Got the same blank white screen, and after 15 minutes have not been able to proceed with even initial setup.

Good for new runners
I really love this app. I have literally gone from couch to running trails, and I have never felt better. I read reviews similar to this before downloading myself. I rolled my eyes and muttered a few choice words under my breath. During the first two weeks I'm fairly certain my lungs went on strike, and I considered destroying my phone on several runs just to not have to do anymore. I run voluntarily now, and it feels amazing.
