Sidus Link 1.9.5 now supports the Remote Collaboration function, you can invite other collaborators to access and control local devices remotely via the Internet. Great App interface, connecting to 12 MCs smoothly
Using this app on iPhone and iPad with 12 Aputure MCs on a 10 camera TV show in GA. The DP and Gaffer are enjoying the convenience and speed at which we can make adjustments to the lights using the Sidus Link app. We do have connectivity issues sometimes when a lot of cameras and audio all have their wireless transmitters on, but hopefully this becomes more reliable with firmware updates. It may just be the nature of having that many wireless transmitters in the same room.
Another issue we are having is that when we bring up an individual light that is already set to a HUE value, it doesn’t always recall what the value was and instead the color wheel point resets back to the middle. If we did not note the hue number, then we are stuck guessing what the value was to try and get the light back to where it was. This happens also when we lose connection and regain connection, the app seems to lose memory of where the values are even if the lights maintain those values.
All in all, we are impressed with the app and look forward to future versions of it.

Moving all my lights to Sidus Link Compatible
The first time I saw Sidus Link working was with just a few Aputure MCs. Now that I’ve gotten used to working with 100% remote fixtures, I never want to go back. I use it with my Aputure 600ds, B7cs, MCs, and just ordered SGC Prism 120s that also support Sidus Link. Sidus Link also motivated me to preorder the new Aputure Nova p600c.
I’ve used other wireless solutions (like Director for Litepanels) but they aren’t mesh networks, so they aren’t as reliable. Also, there is no other family of lights with so many options to be run wirelessly on the same network. I had three different Bluetooth lighting control apps on my phone before Sidus Link. I ran one for my panels, one for my RGB lights, and one for my tube lights. Having everything in Sidus Link is soooo much simpler.
Instead of guessing at ratios and color temps, and dragging a meter everywhere, I just tell the crew where to mount the lights and can dial in everything in seconds.

Password?? Ridiculous!!
I’m a huge admirer of Aputure for what they’ve managed to do. Their lighting products are stellar, at prices that are astonishing. This app is terrifically well thought-out, offering outstanding control of the various units. However, the fact that the user password expires is absolutely IDIOTIC. I can’t begin to express my fury at having to go through the password recovery/reset procedure on set, while everyone is waiting, just to adjust lights!! As another reviewer wrote, it’s not like this is a banking app conveying sensitive information!
Aputure states that a password is needed for future cloud functionality, and that we users should use passwords that are easy to remember. Ummm…what if we have no interest in using the cloud? I certainly don’t!
For those who will be using Aputure’s future cloud service, being instructed to use easy-to-remember passwords absolutely flies in the face of account security.
Requiring a password to use this otherwise-outstanding app is an enormous, egregious mistake. Aputure needs to address this ASAP, and accommodate customers who won’t be using their cloud service.

Absolute Game Changer
As a self funded independent film maker, I tend to wear the hat of cinematographer, gaffer, production designer, director, SFX, producer, editor, etc. Having this invaluable tool in my pocket to adjust color temperature, brightness, build scenes, control effects while operating a camera rig makes all the difference for my production process. So much so, that I even returned the two Nanlites I had purchased in order to convert to an all Aputure, Sidus paired system. Utilization of Sidus was so important to me that I am without lights as I await the release of Aputure’s 60x Bi-Colors which will sync beautifully to Sidus alongside my 300x and MC. Sidus couldn’t be more stable and user friendly. It is effortless to navigate and the depth of the options and settings are so exciting. The capacity to do lighting gags from phone while operating my camera opens up a world of possibilities creatively without dependency on additional crew for my intimate sets. I have only used Sidus for a month but I am now a fan girl for life, truly.

Great, user friendly App for Aputure Lights
This is a whole lot of value for a free app. I’ve been using this to control my Aputure MC’s for product photography and some video work for close to a year now, and I’ve never had any issues. The app is user friendly, after playing around for a while you’ll know all the ins and outs. It’s been incredibly stable in my uses, which is important when on a fast-moving set. And they just keep adding awesome features! Lately they’ve been adding things like the ability to create custom effects, or program sequences of effects across multiple lights. It’s pretty awesome. The only thing I really would like to see is some tutorial content or examples of people using this technology in practice. Especially with the recent effects features it would be really helpful.

Game changer
I’ve recently picked up 4 MC RGBs, 2 B7Cs, and a 60x. I shoot short narrative horror, and usually with super small crews. Sidus has changed so much, and made my life a million times easier. I have all of my Sidus enabled lights in my app, and can just place my lights, and tweak on the spot while looking through my monitor. Sure there are a couple of things I’d like to see improved, but it will only get better over time. Great job guys! I’ve been an Aputure user since the beginning and love that the brand over the years has become a legit name in the industry, and seen on larger commercial shoots I also work on. I remember constantly asking ProCam to carry your products in store, and when I finally walked in and saw the display of products I was so happy. Now it seems everyone I know has at least one of your lights.

Something I didn’t know I even wanted
This app has been a game changer! Up until Sidus link existed, I was perfectly content with adjusting lights manually whether it be for brightness or color. But now that I have gained the power to wirelessly control the parameters of my lights from the convenience of my phone, especially on sets with an increasing number of units, I can never go back. I have used the app countless times for light gags as well. Modulating lights during the take itself without little to no difficulty. Honestly I am not a very tech-savvy person, so I was worried I would have a hard time navigating the app like I did with the Astera App. But that was not the case with Sidus link. It was very quick to learn and I was able to get comfortable pushing my lights to their full potential in no time.

Sidus Link Saves Time
I’ve only had Sidus Link for a short amount of time so I don’t know how to fully utilize it but what I have used it for has greatly improved the speed of production. I use it on a series of MC lights I have. It provides a significant amount of more features and effects on the already incredible Aputure MC’s. I’ve also used it to turn lights on and off on a product photography shoot recently that would have been a hassle to walk around the table in a tight space and shut off each light individually and then turn them back on and change the color, the Sidus Link app made it easy with just a touch of a button. I’m excited to learn even more about the possibilities of this app!

A smart app that just keeps getting smarter!
I’m not usually enthusiastic when I hear a lighting manufacturer has developed its own app. My preference is to use one lighting control app for many lights made by different manufacturers, but some companies do such a good job you find yourself enjoying their app with or without your own 3rd party lighting control app!
Sidus link is pretty easy to get up and running for rudimentary, but powerful control, which is wonderful especially now that LED’s allow manufacturers to add so many capabilities, from white light tuning, RGB color changing, to sophisticated user tunable effects. Being able to control multiple units and change their values globally is more and more a requirement.
On top of that, the Sidus Link app now gives you the ability to create effect timelines so that you can program individual lights and/or groups of lights into automated sequences that range from very basic to multi-level complexity. I’ve only scratched the service, but I can see there is a lot more capability available. The nice thing is, Aputure is continually making the app better and are receptive to user feedback.

Helpful tool on set.
I often have a few 300’s, a nova, and Aputure bulbs in use in practicals in any given shot. Having control over the lights on my phone or an iPad saves me so much time and trouble and allows me to meter and adjust the light, without having to walk all over the set. Sure, the app has some quirks, especially if there’s tons of wireless flying around the room, but it seems they are constantly addressing these issues, and there are plenty of easy work arounds. This app is a must have if you are on the Aputure lighting platform. It is well laid out, easy to use and unlocks new functionality and convenience from your lights. If you’re using Aputure lights, you need this app. Happy filmmaking!
