Roblaw810,
It’s good for when I don’t have my laptop!
Sometimes I won’t have a book to write melodies in or my laptop to actually write it out, but when I use this app I can get some of my ideas out. Only complaint is that I just wish you can write and edit things more easier. You have to kinda dig around for certain tho ha that you want like title, tempo markings and whatnot. I also wish that the playback was expression sensitive. Piano dynamic just sounds like a forte. Other than that, very useful! Just wish it were more user friendly!
G5Tower,
Like writing a song with invisible ink.
I spent six months studying fugue composition. Quite a lot of writing if done by hand. Paid more than I usually do for an app to have the basic function of knowing that what I wrote would be there after I wrote it. In the first 48 hours this app crashed 18 times while I was composing for string quartet. Restart and bars are missing. Completely unacceptable. Full stop. If you can’t improve on the pencil, you should not be building apps. Higher functions like individual note selection are absurd... select a note, it creates a new one a flat 2nd above or below. Delete, try to select again, same. Repeat until you forget the melody you were trying to capture. But the lamest thing about this entire app is, it doesn’t have the simple function that musecore does, select a note or group of notes and add any harmonic interval. So add the same melodic intervals to bar os bars in a fifth, seventh, etc... when scoring, time is critical. This app would be disastrous in a real project environment with a deadline. Stop beta-testing on the public after launch. Get your ____ together before you take musicians money. Jerks.

For the Blind... The best Scorewriter I've Found Yet
Most paid scorewriters are either only partially accessible for the blind, or else they just couldn't care less. I have only just tried to use Symphony with a Bluetooth keyboard tonight, but from what I've seen, it far outperforms most scorewriters for which you have to pay a subscription or a large amount of money. I do think the accessibility features as well as the keyboard shortcuts could be made a bit more prominent on the website or in the App Store description, as I believe blind users would greatly benefit from this. But despite a few quirks, my first attempts have gone very well, and I would like to express my appreciation to the developers for their efforts in making this program accessible.
Chief Problem,
Symphony on an iPhone SE
On a smaller device like my SE, Symphony for iPhone is, most of the time, an absolute delight, though it is often a test of skill... and patience.

It does indeed do a lot of useful tasks, an awful lot of good thinking going into its features. But the poor app hiccups, belches, and occasionally craps out completely. Still I am happy to have such a keen gadget in my pocket. I use it all the time. I devise workarounds, take notes, cross my fingers. And I find the endeavor completely worthwhile. Mostly I get exactly what I want.

Once habituated to the interface, I find I can clip right along, inputting, previewing, correcting, and making large-scale amendments. It is not, mind you, Finale or Sibelius, or even, for that matter, Symphony Pro on a decent size iPad, but one can rough in fairly intricate sketches any time the muse strikes.

Now, it is an irony that for chipping in my two cents (rather prematurely, I think), I am rewarded with the free upgrade that will, ostensibly, patch a lot of these bugaboos. I guess now I get to find out!

Update: I found out. Nope! Bugs remain. Will probably have to invest in an iPad and try Notion to get any improvement. Cool app; needs work.

Lounging in bed using iPhone to arrange music
Perfect for my purposes. I work on computers all day and never feel like using computers at home for fun. I enjoy arranging music for various purposes and this app is surprisingly functional and the price tag is right. Not interested in committing to a super expensive subscription based program like Sibelius or Finale when this is only a hobby. I love this app so far. Didn’t take me long to get pretty efficient with it, using keyboard function to enter notes and using copy-paste as needed. Playback feature is nice too so I don’t have to walk downstairs to my piano to check.
FrankDiBug,
Liberation from Desktop
As a longtime user of an open-source music writing application that limited me to the desktop, I was so happy to discover Symphony. Symphony frees me to notate my music on the go whenever I am inspired, and it affords me all the important capabilities I need. It has a really well-designed and intuitive interface that lets me work even more fluidly than before. I love the resizable piano keyboard, the one-touch way of picking note and rest values, and the many ways to export my projects, particularly to MusicXML. Bravissimo, Symphony!
Dimo Trop,
Awesome app!!!
This is one of the best apps out there for iPhone/iPad. I have full version for iPad and I use it all the time. I don’t need a computer any more, this app has all the features that beginner and intermediate user needs. If you need to do some of the more advanced stuff then use Finale or Sibelius, but for every day use this is a perfect app! Even if you need to use Finale or Sibelius you can start with this app then export musicXML or midi file and load it in to an app that you want to use on your computer. Thank you Developers!!! You guys ROCK!!!
BeatsbyDiv,
For what it’s worth
This app is beautifully designed and powerful.. well at least it seems to be. I wouldn’t really know how useful the app is because I don’t know anything about music notation but this app is really great for learning since it can also work with midi. I’m impressed by how much it utilizes available screen space. For someone who doesn’t know much about how one of these apps is supposed to look or function, I think the app design alone is a work of art.
Moment65,
Works well for me
With this type of specialized work different people are going to want to want so many different things that it’s impossible to include everything that will make everyone happy.

This has a good range of useful features without being too complicated and bloated. I have some expensive products to go to when I need them so I appreciate having this app available as an easily portable option.
vchip123,
Great app!
I’ve actually been using this on my iPhone and find that for the most part it ‘s quite easy to use. There are a few quirks I haven’t figured out - I didn’t find the help section to be that helpful when I tried to search for something, but really it does pretty much what I need it to. The playback feature drives me nuts because I can’t seem to get it to start where I want it to - but that’s probably me, I think.
