After playing and enjoying Mystery on Telescope Hill (also by Aircamp), I was looking forward to Secret of Chimera Labs. I wasn’t disappointed. This game was much longer and significantly harder...not that I’m complaining. Like other Aircamp games, the puzzles are more complex than the repetitive slider/combination lock puzzles found in most games in this genre. They’re also organic to the story and the environments, which I always find more interesting. These puzzles can be tricky, and some require walking away and coming back later with fresh eyes, but solving them is always possible without hints, and rewarding as a result.
I appreciate that the game generates a journal for you, since there is a LOT of information required to suss out the clues in these multi-layered puzzles. There is some light math involved, and I sometimes had trouble differentiating between sight variations in color, but that didn’t detract from the fun. Overall, this game isn’t quite on the level of the Room and House of DaVinci games, but it’s a pretty solid entry in the genre, and well worth playing.
