Worked well until IOS 13.1.2
Have used this app many times over the past year and a half to control a YI action camera 4K to record youth hockey games. Very satisfied, great video, always connected to iPhone 6S and to iPad Pro. Very recently, the app suddenly stopped connecting even though the iPhone was properly connected the YI WiFi network. The camera is updated with the latest firmware. The app has been refreshed. Following the same procedure that had worked dozens of times in the,past. The only change I can point to is the recent update to IOS 13.1.2. Stopped working after that update.

Live Streaming
Purchased 4K+ couple weeks ago to live stream on Facebook (high school baseball games, youth baseball games, etc...). Several issues with the app. The main one for me, you cannot live stream. I have called Yi directly multiple times, emailed Yi several times, sent them FB messages, etc...
First time calling the lady didn’t understand why it wouldn’t work for me. Later in the conversation she tells me tech dept is working on a new firmware update that will fix the problem and they have known about this issue. She then proceeds to tell me it will be released in one week (didn’t happen). So I called back and talked to a different person. He didn’t know anything about the firmware update. He did talk to the tech dept and they told him a new firmware will come out in future for various items.
Email responses tell me to visit the website and read the tutorials or delete Yi action app and reload. I guess you don’t think I tried all of this.
Don’t waste your time with these Yi action cameras or app. They crash at random times, audio is horrible, live streaming doesn’t work, customer service doesn’t know what is going on but will tell you what you want to hear.

Decent but limited
I don’t really care for the use of WiFi to connect to the camera, since you can only have one WiFi connection going at a time; Bluetooth would have been better. But this is probably a limitation of the camera, not the app. There are also some limitations that are probably part of the firmware, like not being able to select any interval for a time lapse (why 1, 2, and 5 sec but no possibility for 3 or 4, for instance). The app is a pretty convenient way to control the camera at least, especially from a second, unused phone that you don’t use for phone things.

Complaints
First of all I don’t write reviews. I’m only writing this because people are having issues pairing the camera to be phone and viewing is on the phone. It gives you directions on how to set it up. Connect with it through WiFi open the app and follow instructions. It prompts you to turn off the cellular assist through the cellular menu and turn off access and it works. And the clarity is just of that of a GoPro (had one and got rid of it because I never used it) and I purchased the lite. Can’t wait to try this out.

Yi Action Camera App crashes constantly
Why can’t you address the constant crashing? I’m using the latest iOS 12.2 on iPhone XR, yet this app is the only app I have that won’t load.
I was attempting to show off my camera tonight but I can’t get the app to stay up. It crashes immediately most of the time, but it’ll actually load and connect to my Yi Action camera about 1 out of 15 times. It won’t last. A few minutes of running through various menu items, down again.
I’m amazed by this considering the earlier versions worked flawlessly. Are you abandoning the technology? Should we reconsider future purchases of Yi camera products? I’d honestly love to know the answers here as I’ve been an advocate for Yi products for several years.
What’s going on now leaves your customers in a position of distrust, we can’t feel good about buying products from a company that won’t dedicate resources to develop and test software paired with your cameras.
Please consider this as a request to address the issues. I’ll be more than happy to provide debug logs to help diagnose the problems.

Call the exterminator, this app has lots of bugs in it!
Although the Yi developers had some great innovative ideas for the action cam app, It has many bugs in it. It also freezes often especially when running 2.7 k or 4 k videos. Also camera to phone WiFi has a tendency to disconnect even within 5 ft of the camera. Several other bugs to list... not to mention you get Chinese character messages popping up sometimes. The user should be able to read only 1 language of choice.

App Has Stopped Working
Buyer beware! The app doesn’t work with recent versions of iOS. The camera will not connect to my iPhone on iOS 13.3, but our old iPad running iOS 10 works without issue. Delete, reinstall, reset all you like; the app won’t see that you’re connected to the camera’s Wifi. The camera hardware is good but if you want longevity and good software support, pay for the GoPro.
To get photos off the camera you’ll need a microSD card reader, OTG cable or a computer. You cannot control the camera remotely anymore.

App hasn’t been updated in a year
Is a great camera to record 4K videos and if you’re not into livestream or controlling the camera with your phone, this might be a great option for you, unfortunately the app hasn’t been updated in more than a year, it seems that Xiaomi doesn’t care anymore about the app and the connectivity of the camera.

Why is my app crashing all of sudden???
It will connect to the camera then after it says linked it crashes! This is absolutely frustrating because this is how I’m able to see my videos and download them to my phone. Please fix this problem because it’s obviously the app having issues all of sudden. I haven’t had problems with connecting the app to my phone to use the camera through my phone. So that’s why it’s a 3 Star right now.

Live preview issues
I had the same issues reported with live previews as other reviewers. However, I have found a workaround:
Disable your phone’s cellular connection or disable cellular data for this app. Leave only the WiFi connection to the camera enabled.
When I did this, the preview stream connected instantly. I suspect the app is trying to use the cell data to connect to the live stream and WiFi for all other functions in the current version. I’ve reported this to Xiaoyi support and hope they resolve it soon.
In the meantime, this is an annoyance but I can work around it. The app otherwise seems to be fine. Hope the developers can fix this bug soon so I can increase my rating. The latest version did not fix this bug
