Description

Ditch the Strap!

BlueHeart is the first app that lets you bridge the divide between your Apple Watch and your gym equipment like Peloton, Mirror, LifeFitness, Precor, Wahoo, Garmin, TrainerRoad, and more! By using Apple Health to record your workouts you can close your rings and have your heart rate data show up in your Peloton/Mirror dashboard or in front of you on your treadmill or rowing machine.

Works with all Bluetooth Heart Rate devices!
We follow the Bluetooth SIG spec for a heart rate monitor so BlueHeart lets you use your watch and phone as a Bluetooth heart monitor that shows up exactly as a chest strap would. If you can turn your watch and phone into a universal Bluetooth heart rate monitor, so why spend the extra money to buy one or waste the time putting one on when your watch is already on your wrist and BlueHeart is a tap away?

Privacy Focused!
BlueHeart is built from the ground up to be privacy-focused. BlueHeart is GDPR, CCPA, and Apple No-Tracking complaint. We use the app every day. We care about our privacy as much as you do, so your data is your data. We don't want it and we upload no identifiable data to our servers. We also use best in class ad partners that are also GDPR, CCPA, and Apple No-Tracking complaint.

Close Your Rings!
Save to Apple Health and close your rings just like the native workout app.
We get it. We like to close them too. So get the best of both worlds by having your watch calculate your calories using Apple's advanced algorithms and broadcast your heart rate over BLE.

Glitchy
Update: The connection problem is getting better, but even when I’ve selected the “don’t save” option, it’s still double-counting the workout on Health (both my Peloton and app workout minutes are recording as Active Energy). Oddly enough, it doesn’t show a second workout—it just double-counts the time and calories. I have to manually go through and delete all of the iPhone and Apple Watch “workout minutes” on the Health app to have the right number of minutes and calories burned showing. Because of that, I’ve stopped using it again—too much work. Note: This does not happen when I use the Peloton chest heart rate monitor and have the Apple Watch on.

Worked really well during the first few minutes of my first Peloton with this, but I had to stop the workout to respond to an issue at home. When I tried to restart my ride, it wouldn’t connect. I tried going to another ride, and same thing. I tried turning off Bluetooth on the bike and on my phone and even force closing the app, and nothing. I also did a hard shutdown on the Peloton bike, and nothing. I gave up trying to use it and just went back to the chest strap.

I really love the idea of this app, and the first few minutes with it were great, but it’s a huge problem that I couldn’t get it to pair again with the bike to resume my workout. Glad I didn’t pay the $10 for it.
jmgregory1,
Was nice when it sort of worked...
Just wanted to come back and update as I’ve got another week of use with the app and it’s worked flawlessly. I haven’t had to do any app quitting and restarting to get it to connect to my Peloton. I am on the WatchOS 7.1 beta, which could be the thing making it work. Whatever it is, it’s working as advertised for me. I simply start the app on my Watch (series 5), start the app on my iPhone (11 Pro Max) and it connects automatically to the Peloton.

An update to my earlier review, as the last two rides the app not only worked, it connected without any trouble and has been rock steady during the rides. I had given up on it and was simply using the Watch workout app, but decided to check if BlueHeart would work and it connected immediately and showed my heart rate on the screen.

Hopefully it continues to work, as I really like having the Watch be able to track my heart rate and it showing up on the Peloton.

Can’t believe I sprung for the paid upgrade, twice (for me and my wife), and I got it to work just a couple of times. It will sometimes connect to the Peloton, but not actually link the heart rate. Super frustrating and the work arounds don’t work either. I wish Peloton would develop a solution, other than needing to get a new bike.
DaRodTheBearded,
No reply for connection issues
My wife and I downloaded the app on august 31st and paid for the upgrade to pro to support the app maker. This app has never worked for my wife and only a few times for me. The few times it did work, my work out did not register on my activity app. We both have put in tickets for help with no replies from the company even though after putting in the ticket we receive the message saying they have received the request and will be contacting you soon. After putting in multiple tickets, I opened a log in to the app makers company and have log in issues. I get a message saying my login and password do not match. I hit the forgot my password button and get the message I will get an email but never do. I tried opening a new account but I get the message my login is already taken. The company has my email, received multiple tickets for the app and logging in issues and I never get a reply. We both really want this app to work but after this long without the app working and no replies from the company, I felt I have no choice but to write this review. We would much rather have the app to work than try to get my my money back but it looks like we will end up with neither.
MimimimimimimimiNN,
Awesome!
Very pleased with this app. Had trouble getting it to connect to my Peloton today, but read a couple of reviews and it sounds like there was a glitch with the most recent update to the Peloton firmware. Restarted the Peloton and it connected right away!

Also recently got a new Nordictrack tread, and couldn’t figure out how to pair it. Went ahead and started my run and it paired automatically! Very pleased with how simple it was!

I would love to have the ability to edit the length of the workout. I forgot to “stop” the HR monitor after my run, and it kept going for another 25 minutes before I realized it. Now it looks like I ran for 57 minutes instead of the 32 that I did. Is there a way to do this that I just haven’t figured out?
Tohsig,
Don't waste your money
This app could be great if it wasn't so horribly glitchy. So many problems, and at this point the $10 price point is just a ridiculous price for what you get.

My setup is a series 4 apple watch paired with an iPhone 11 Pro and the Peloton app on my iPad Pro.

Here's my experience:

- The app *usually* connects correctly if I open the app from my phone (NOT the watch), start a workout, open the Peloton app on my iPad, start a video, connect the BlueHeart signal.
- When the above process doesn't work (about 30% of the time), then it's a lot of restarting and fiddling.
- Ending a workout and then starting a new one (e.g. for a cool down ride) NEVER works. The only way to make that happen is to force quitBlueHeart's watch app, iPhone app, and Peloton's iPad app.
- Even when the app has successfully paired, it'll just periodically drop connection and then I have to do the whole "restart EVERYTHING" song and dance.
- The setting to not persist workouts to iOS's Health Data does nothing. Every single time I have to manually delete all of BlueHeart's entries. Bear in mind that can add up to a lot of entries for a set of rides if the app is glitching out and I have to keep restarting everything.

Will gladly update this review if things get better, because I really want this thing to work. Sadly, that just isn't the case right now.
OofSizeAppIssues,
App worked for the last 6 months until now
This happened within the last couple days. But I follow the steps of opening the watch app, then opening the phone app and connecting. It connects to the bike, but doesn’t show any data or do the countdown on the watch. Yesterday I had to restart all 3 devices to get it to work after 30 minutes. Was there an update that changed this? I’m on the latest software for all 3 devices. I’m not sure what happened within the last week but it is super frustrating. When I open the App on the phone, it says I don’t have the watch app downloaded which I do. That was a new error outside of the watchOS 7 bug error that comes up. I tried to submit a ticket via the web portal but it does not work either.
Green Danberg,
Don’t Buy the Paid Option
Downloaded the app to track my heart rate on the Peloton bike using my Apple Watch.

After testing the free version, I paid to remove the ads. That’s a decision I regret. BlueHeart requires both your iPhone and watch. As far as I can tell, the apps has never worked the same way twice! Just when I think I have it figured out, I discover a new bug or gap in features.

You can no longer initiate a workout directly from your phone, which had historically been my most successfully strategy (Note: Pausing to reflect how ridiculous it is that you have to have different strategies to get a paid app to work properly. It’s a crapshoot...). I wish I had stuck with the free product. In this case, you don’t get what you pay for. I’m going to try some alternatives and hope Peloton releases this feature as part of their Apple Watch functionality in the future.
LewFL,
Just too many bugs, rarely works
I hate leaving a bad review, but ultimately I started using this app months ago and even paid for the Pro version so that I could skip ads. I ride my Peloton about 6 days per week. This app maybe will work about 1 to 2 times per month. I’ve followed the rather complicated video steps to try and get it to connect with no success. I try every time I get on the bike using a different technique to pair it and it still just does not work. So, I’m back to my scoshe band most days. This app has a great idea and would be a wonderful solution, but after paying for a premium experience and it not working at all, it is basically useless to me. Maybe if they fix it in the future I can change the rating.
ahaagl,
It simply does not work
I tried it and decided to pay the $10 to get rid of the so called “ads” which are not actually that, but just some animated videos to waste your time and make you pay. I thought this was the reason why it was not connecting to the Bike. However after upgrading, I followed the instructions, researched in the web, deleted the app and uploaded again, reset the Peloton, cleared the cache, etc.
This app it’s extremely difficult to connect, when it finally does after insisting and waisting 5-10 minutes, it then keeps disconnecting.
When you try to connect from the iPhone the developed admits that “there is an Apple bug” and therefore that was disabled.
Try the competitor, much better experience, it’s Free and if you like it you have the option to donate $2, but to threatening “ads”.
madhat7998,
Works great! Requesting a new feature..
We were using an heart rate arm strap monitor for our Peloton Bike and Tread and discovered this app. My wife was getting a rash from using the arm strap and would rather just use the Apple Watch.

The app works great to connect to the Peloton Bike and Tread so that our heart rate is shown on the tablet screens and recorded in the peloton workouts.
Sometimes I need to force close the app on my iPhone and relaunch in order to get it to connect. Hoping this improves with future updates

Feature request: please give us an option to not save workouts automatically. Since we have Peloton linked to our apple Health, our workouts already get recorded. If we save our workout using BlueHeart then it adds another workout and doubling our metrics.

To avoid this, we have to discard the workout ,which requires a few confirmations on the Apple Watch. I want to just hit End on the Apple Watch app and have it not save the workout automatically.
