For the ladies ...
Look, I’m a 46 year old woman I’m moderately fit - and don’t have any unrealistic goals about competing or having a perfectly cut body. I feel the need to say this app is for everyone, not just male aspiring body builders. It’s highly customizable and adjusts to your fitness goals easily.
I’ve always worked out and had been doing CrossFit for the past 3 or so years. After many CrossFit disappointments ( I won’t go off on that) I went back to the gym but found it hard to get into a routine, and In fairness to CrossFit, I had gotten used to external forces and a planned routine to keep me motivated. After floundering at the gym for a few months I came across this app. It’s a gym game changer. Even my worst, lazy, unmotivated, moments I have a specific routine I know I need to do. I see so many people wasting time at the gym , spending hours there on their phone taking up prime real estate and franking doing exercises that not only seem useless, but could in fact be harmful. And I see many women that don’t seem to feel comfortable using heavier weights ( I also see superhero fabulously fit heavy lifting women- don’t get me wrong). But I feel like everyone could benefit from using this app. Efficient, simple and science based.
Anyway - if you hate the idea of going it alone in the weight room or chatting it up with the gym trainer - this is the app for you. It’s far less money than a trainer - and you’ll never have to do a burpee or kipping pull up again.

Fantastic App
Update: 8/2/21
Came back after a break and the team has been very busy. The app has continued to improve. It’s not a cheap solution but in this case you get what you pay for. The progression is well thought out and not random. The workouts are solidly designed. If you want to put your training on auto pilot and just show up to do the work this is the app for you.

Wanted to write a quick review because I believe Dr. Carl and his team deserve it. I started using the app after a layoff due to shoulder and back injury and needed the motivation to grind back the strength. When I started my Bench was 195 and my squat was 198. This was in the beginning of April. My squat is now 333 and my bench is 235. I’ve done this while healing the injuries and I’m doing these workouts pain free. The guidance of the app is very good and it does and phenomenal job of adjusting to your strength and subtly pushing you towards progress in volume or strength or both. A recent update also advises you to add additional sets due to high recovery or back off due to detraining after a layoff. I haven’t seen another app that comes close to what this offers.

Great “Set it and forget it” workout app!
I love how I can either pick my program for the day or let the app choose for me. Letting the app choose brings up that day’s workout with the weights and reps chosen for you based on your last few workouts. So you make progress without needing to think about calculating your sets and reps. The app does everything for you!

The best improvement the app made was to add a “rest/pause” option. Before, I would do my set, let the app count down the recommended rest, do the next set, etc. Each workout took anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes. With rest/pause, I do the first set of let’s say 12 reps, have the timer count down from 25 seconds, and then do a set of 4 at the same weight, followed by another 25 seconds and another 4. With the shorter rest, my muscles are fatigued quickly so that the sets of 4 become very difficult. I can finish my workout in half the time and still know I’m making progress.

Overall, I highly recommend this app. I’ve been using it for about a year and I recently renewed my subscription to annual rather than monthly. Just get the app.

I would give it a 10 if I could
One of the things I have struggled with is progressing in my workouts without injuring myself. I'm a 56 year old former bodybuilder who stopped working out and got very out of shape the last 10 years due to work/family commitments getting in the way. Last April I decided to take my health back. I've lost 105 pounds and got back in the gym. The problem I was having is I know how to lift as a bodybuilder, but was concerned many of my routines and attempts at progress would lead to injury therefore my progression wasn't really happening as I kept switching routines trying to find the right one and was hesitant to increase weight/reps. You've taken all that guesswork out of the equation for me. My strength has been increasing. I can feel in my muscles that they are being worked, but not destroyed. I can see a difference in my physique. An added bonus, as an IT guy, I'm intrigued when technology can help me with my workouts and I love the app interface. Nice, straight-forward, and effective to manage my workouts

Doing great at age 59!
Carl, thank you for the app and all the excellent thought that’s gone into it. I'm currently in the process of working through the strength phase in Level 6. I've felt good doing Level 6 and the balance of an easy workout followed by a hard one has worked out extremely well for my 59 year old body. I feel plenty rested by the time the next hard workout comes up and I have been making consistent gains on them. It could be that way as I had taken several months off from lifting to deal with a shoulder and elbow issue. When I started to lift again in December I went through the guided set up and it suggested Level 6 at 2x per week. It's gone well and I've actually done a fair share of 3x per week. I'm doing so well just wondering about maybe repeating Level 6 again. I'm hoping you might give me some feedback of the good vs bad of repeating Level 6. I'd appreciate your recommendation.

progressive overload app finally!
I have been searching for years for an app that automatically shows me the exercises, sets, reps, adjusts weights and gives me education for years. I have tried fit jet, fit bid, strong etc. There is enough conflicting lifting into out there to make your head spin - and mine did for years. I have finally found and app that gives me everything and walks me through what I’m supposed to do. I work two gigs so I need in the gym and out of the gym as efficiently as possible. It can be pricey per month but it’s only $30 per month if you buy annual. It’s like having a personal trainer honestly. to me that is worth the money per month bc after years of failure - I finally feel like I know what im doing and am seeing results. Hope this helps

Uncommon Service
I have been using Dr. Muscle on and off (off for some medical issues) for a few years now. I find the product to be extremely useful in making my workouts effective and nearly automatic so I have less downtime between exercises while I figure out the next exercise and the weight and reps that I should be doing. That is all great, but what I find uncommon and of significant value is the attention to customer service and the very personal attention from Carl and Victoria when I need something or have a question. Never have I purchased an app that provided exactly what it advertised, but a personal connection that goes far beyond normal customer service. I would recommend this app to anyone that wants to get in shape. 10 Stars all the way!!!!!!

This is the strength training app you've been looking for...
I'm 45, M, 6'7", 270lbs. As a kid (16-18) I was a competitive power lifter and wrestler. Seems somewhere around 22 I say down on the couch and didn't get up for 20yrs. Five years ago I weighed in at just over 430lbs. I got the weight off through diet and LOTS of LISS cardio. Earlier in 2019 forward progress stalled hard. That's when I started incorporating strength training. I tried and handful of short term programs and did a lot of research before I found Dr. Muscle. In just two weeks I've seen larger strength gains with Dr. M than I had over the last six months. The structured progressive overload, varied programs, excellent customer service, customizable, and adaptability of the app all work in concert to maximize your efforts. Worth every penny and I will continue to use the app as long as I'm the gym.

Best lifting app!!
I’ve been using the Dr. Muscle app for a couple of months. As a 62 year old personal trainer, I’ve been quite impressed with the app. The structured routine has allowed me to make steady gains over the weeks I’ve been using it. And it’s straight-forward,scientific approach records and tracks your progress...pushing you when you need it...and deloading appropriately when needed. I’m anxious to see how I progress with it in the months to come! In addition to the great functionality of the app, the customer service from the Dr. Muscle team is incredible. They have reached out on several occasions and respond quickly with any questions you might have. I feel the value I receive for the cost of the app is spot on!! I highly recommend Dr. Muscle if you are serious about progressive, effective bodybuilding!

Beware: Won’t let you cancel expensive subscription
Worst thing first: I was a paid ($$$$) user of this app for a couple of years. Then I decided to cancel and move on to a different app. After three weeks and 7 attempts, they won’t cancel my subscription (which is done through their web site not through in-app purchase). My first request to cancel resulted in 3 emails back and forth trying to convince me to stay, even offering to negotiate the price. When I still wanted to cancel they went silent. My last few emails spread over the past week have resulted in no response from them at all. Now I need to contact my credit card to block payment to Dr. Muscle.

The app itself has good science-based workouts. The interface feels clunky and very “2010.” Somewhat frequent and annoying bugs, although that did improve over time with updates. I found a free app on the App Store — Caliber — that does everything I need and that I prefer even if Dr. Muscle were free.
