Description

Want to get fit and feel fantastic? Want to add some fresh air to your exercise? Then Get Running with the best Couch to 5k App!

With three enjoyable workouts a week, in nine weeks you will be running continuously for half an hour, even if getting off the couch is a struggle today!

Get Running breaks through the “beginning barrier” with its enormously popular Couch to 5k running plan. In week one’s workouts you'll alternate one minute of running with 90 seconds of walking. With each new week, Get Running’s human voice coach gradually builds up your pace, until you’re running for a whole half-hour!

Get Running is the only Couch to 5K App that:

• Coaches like a human – with hundreds of studio-recorded progress and encouragement prompts.
• Supports and encourages you – talk with fellow running rookies on the Get Running forum.
• Lets you share (NEW!) – share Get Running with up to three other runners: you all get your own log and settings!
• Helps you plan – rest days help you recover, and Get Running knows the best day for your next run.
• Displays your next move – the unique Run Clock, customised for each workout, gives complete visibility and understanding.

In addition, Get Running:

• Works with or without music. Or listen to podcasts and audio books.
• Fits your schedule – just three workouts a week of 20 to 30 minutes.
• Logs your achievements – with an illuminating visual record of your progress.

Thousands of people have changed their lives with Get Running and you will too! Whether you’re running for your health, training for a 5K, or building to conquer a marathon — Get Running!

Get Running's users say:

• Just finished week 9 run 3 and all I can say is this app changed my life. Great job.

• I LOVE your app. I have tried several but Yours is the BEST for me. I am 60 years young this year & a cancer survivor. I have set the goal to run 5 K races. I use your program as my trainer, it is SUPER. Thank You. – Vickie Wheeler by email

• I tried the top selling "Couch to 5k" App before I purchased this one, and this one is much nicer to use. The voice reminders are very helpful. I like how it pauses your music instead of talking over it. I highly recommend it over the others.

• Thank you so much for this little gem of an app. I had a look at others like it but this wins hands down. It is so brilliantly simple with a great interface.

• Thank you! This app has changed my life. I was unfit and didn't do any regular exercise. I always blamed my asthma for being the reason I couldn't run for longer than a minute, but now I know it's because I was unfit! I have signed up for a 5k race too! – @amyriddett on Twitter

• Really great app. I'm actually looking forward to running. I listen to podcasts and this app is terrific at pausing the show to make it's announcements. I don't miss anything that was said. Outstanding.

The major change in this update is single-sign-in for Twitter and Facebook; robustness improvements to posting; and use of the built in tweet sheet when you write an update yourself.

We've also made a small change to when runs are added to you log – they're now completed as soon as the warm up starts.

Oh, and: NEW ICON! … Shiny New Icon! We hope you'll enjoy in on your home screen.

A few minor bugs have been fixed with external status update support.

Thanks as always for your awesome feedback and suggestions. Please keep it coming.

A few bugs associated with iOS 6 have been fixed.

We're planning to put out more updates soon with various features that have been requested. Until then, please keep your feedback coming and happy running!

Lots of you have asked to easily know how long each work out is, and how much running is involved, so we've added this on to the main screen. Thank you for letting us know!

The status bar during runs is now a groovy black, not a jarring grey.

Other recent big updates are full support of both Facebook and Twitter.

Please keep sending us your feedback and suggestions, and your awesomely fantastic success stories.

The other big change isn't a cool new feature to tick off. We've been looking at Get Running's interface, and we've refined, polished and buffed in lots of places. If you notice nothing more than greater happiness and peace with the world, then our work has been worth it.

We're enormously excited to bring you three big enhancements in this release.

First – we've found that as well as being a fantastic way to get fit, running is something that most runners want to talk to other runners about, both to celebrate their success and to ask for support. To this end, we've set up a forum where you can catch up with other runners on the program. You can reach it from the "Talk" menu in the app, or you can go there from your usual web browsing machine.

Second & Third – we've added two popularly requested features… You can now choose that a run continue in the background if you close the "Get Running" application. Some of you have also asked for just the essential coaching. You'll find these available as options in the settings menu.

Thank you all for your fantastic feedback and success stories. Please keep it coming using: the forums, get-satisfaction, twitter (@getrunningapp & #getrunning), or the support email address.

It's a new decade, so here are some huge new features to help you start it as you mean to go on!

Get Running can now broadcast your fantastic running successes to the world! …and tell everyone when you should be running again ;-) Bring up the "talk" menu with the button at the bottom left of the main screen, and you'll be able to post on Twitter, Facebook, or with "ping.fm", to just about anywhere at all.

From this version, Get Running runs exclusively on OS 3.0 upwards, which lets the audio quality of the wonderful coaching be notched up from very lovely, to completely sparkling. 3.0 features also allows Get Running Lite to transfer its Run Log to Get Running automatically.

Thanks for your great ideas and feedback, and please keep it coming in – you can open our support web site right from the Talk page.

We're putting the final touches on another enormous feature for Get Running – it should be with you in a couple of weeks. Until then, Happy Running!

A short and sweet update this time: a few mistakes with the audio have been fixed up.

Thanks for all your brilliant feedback and great reviews! It's fantastic hearing how well you're getting on with your running and loving it!

Easily remove unwanted runs that have made their way in to your log. Just touch the cogs at the bottom right and choose "Run Log Management" from the Settings screen.

The settings also give you control of the Run Clock during your workouts. The default lets your phone lock itself and dim the display to save power - Get Running will keep on coaching you, of course! Your other options are to keep the clock on, or additionally, protect the in run media controls to avoid accidental activation.

Thanks for all your brilliant feedback, and have an excellent time with your running and your health!

This new version of Get Running adds ducks!

By popular request, Get Running now pauses your music as it talks to you, and then starts it playing after (In the music trade this is called "ducking" - Quack!).

Ducking uses features only available in OS 3.0 or better. But don't worry: if you're using an older OS, Get Running will still work beautifully, and you'll get ducks if you do upgrade.

… The next release will provide a way to delete unwanted runs from the log. Useful for those times your son or daughter is playing with your phone, and in two minutes they go for six runs with it!

Until then, if you want to remove _all_ runs, you can do that by deleting the app from your phone, and then adding it back with iTunes.

The major change in this version is that the interface has been streamlined and simplified. You can now easily take things at your pace and re-run a previous run without any need to use the settings.

Additionally:
- The log always shows your most recent runs.
- The text is larger, for better legibility.
- The display of dates is improved, and more friendly.

Best app ever!!!
and nothing even comes close to this app. I just wish they could come out with a 10K version. gotten me through a lot, I’ve tried everything else and nothing even comes close to this app. I just wish they could come out with a 10K version. me through a lot, I’ve tried everything else and nothing even comes close to this app. I just wish they could come out with a 10K version. se this app every time I have been away from running for awhile and have to start to slowly build up my endurance again. I don’t know what I would do without it, it’s a lifesaver.
TKOMalley,
Love this app, am I an Anglophile?
There’s something about the coach’s soothing British voice that makes me smile, even when I feel like giving up. That said, sometimes I get excited or hopeful when she starts speaking, only to be disappointed that I have 45 seconds MORE of exertion 🙂. Other than that, I’ve used this app a couple times over the last few years to get back into cardio health after pregnancy and general laziness. I’ve even used the interval prompts for things like jumping rope, kettle ball swings and other calistenthics as a workout when I can’t run.
jonathanwylie,
Works Really Well
I started off looking at apps like C2K5 and 5K Runner, but am pleased with this one. It is not as flashy or featured packed as some others but the simplicity is one of the reasons why it works so well. Voice prompts are great and well timed and the week by week pacing is just right.

My only request, so far, is that I wish there was an Apple Watch app. I’d really like to do quick visual checks of my progress in each run without getting my phone out, unlocking it, opening the app etc. A glance at my wrist would be much more convenient. 🙏🏻
TinkerbellTee,
Great for the beginner
I downloaded this app based off a friends recommendation and I love it! I never thought I’d enjoy running so much. The segments are manageable with plenty of time to recover during the walking sections. I was concerned my heart rate wouldn’t enjoy running but this program seems well designs to build up the cardio. The voice over is calming and encouraging. She speaks just enough at the right times and even turns down the volume of my music when she is talking. I’m about to start week three and I’m looking forward to it.
Amlee1081,
Makes 1/2 hour of running nonstop doable - Even for the out-of-shape!
I’m on my 2nd time through this 8 wk running app. The first time was four years ago before having my youngest child. That time I went from completely sedentary to running a 5k 3x a week. I’m two weeks in this time and can already tell it’s working again. Each run I have a little more to give for a little bit longer. I may never be fast, but I know I’ll end this 8 weeks able to run the full half hour without stopping.
Sgt. Migee,
My favorite running app!
I love it and have used it many times over the years. I tend to run for a while and then get lazy and stop for a long period of time. So then I go back to this app. I’ve completed the training twice and I quit it once. It’s still amazes me that it’s so hard to run for a short period of time when I start the training but by the end I’m running a 5k non-stop!
preshlmom,
Love it!!
I downloaded this app 8 yrs ago. It got me to my first 5k, and motivated me to run half marathons. I have since not run as often as I should, I have downloaded many apps but always go back to this one when I need to get myself back to three miles. The calm, encouraging tones, the manageable expectations make it easy and amazing. I never even realize I am running as far as I am!
Divegirl555,
Get running
I did this app a few years ago. In no time I was running my first 5K, I lost weight and was toned up. I had a few difficult years ( emotional times with great losses ) and fell away from running. I am back at it with this app starting from week 1 I set a bucket list of 5K runs from Michigan to Minnesota to Florida. I am going to be 65 and I know I can do the 5K. Who knows maybe 10K.
ajoshia,
This app I bought almost 9 years ago and it changed my life forever
my first week day 1 on 1st feb 2012. That day I never thought I would even run 5 minutes ever. Kept on doing it week after week (in 19F temperature too). Completed 5k in 9 weeks. It really works. voice prompt are very well done.
Andrea galante,
Restarting our running
I have used this app before to get started running and it was great then. I now find myself needing to restart again. This program is perfect for me. It steps you up at great intervals, and you can always repeat a week if you feel you need more practice before you move on. Highly recommend!
