wataunif,
Better than the with her games
I only want to play the monster Gwent cards you should get them when you loot the monster’s corpse but you get them randomly from crates and when you win random players when I got the collector edition I thought I’d get the monster Gwent deck you can’t buy it from dlc then I got Witcher 3 wild hunt from PlayStation now on my ps4 you get all dlc but I still had to install the free dlc updates from the ps store separately you get a Gwent card for the northern realms deck I can’t find it in my Gwent cards. I finally have the monster deck at the beginning of this game I had a lot of fun milling all of the cards in the other decks to make monster cards if you have to pay to win in this game I’m happy I have my monster cards I’m sure alot of people hate the Gwent cards in the other decks you can get very easily in the Witcher 3 wild hunt I never played 1 and 2. Monster cards are the best sometimes it’s challenging but it’s easier with monster cards in the game you don’t start with Gerald from the beginning and you don’t get character cards when you meet them if you don’t have them already 5 stars is the perfect rating for this game if you feel the way I feel you’ll love this game MONSTER GWENT CARDS ARE THE BEST!!! The game has animations when you play Gwent cards and when you attack the game doesn’t have any
I'm impatient,
I want to like this game.
I enjoy the Witcher books, games, and show. I was excited to play this game and for a few days I really enjoyed it. The music and artwork are amazing. It’s a great way for me to enjoy the experience of the Witcher world without taking up hours of my time. It is obvious that a lot of time and effort went into the making of this game and I appreciate that. The issues I have are with the game play. This is not chess. You can strategize all day and still get obliterated because your opponent has better cards. Yes, you can buy those cards. Yes, they are in loot boxes. Yes, that’s how pay to win works. You still need half a brain to play the cards correctly but I was hoping for more than the same old cash grab that is becoming all you can play on anything now. I get it. It’s a business model that makes a lot of money but I was hoping for more from CD project red. I can live with that. What I can’t overlook is lag issues on a game with time limits. On the special game modes there is a faster pace which I like because standard mode can take up to 10 minutes or more to complete a game. I don’t that much time for a round of gwent because I mostly play when I catch a break at work. It is incredibly frustrating to have a card disappear as I’m trying to play it. It can cost you a 5 minute match in a matter of seconds. This has happened multiple times. I hope is resolved because as I said I really want to like this game.
TheMuseumGuy,
Polished, fun, fair
It seems like Gwent has been out for consoles and PCs for so long. Now finally iOS players get in on the action. If you played The Witcher 3 then you know not only about Gwent but also about the developers. They are a company of integrity that produces incredibly polished, fun games. The visuals and sound effects in this game are just stunning. The Gwent you remember from Witcher 3 is very different but it won't take you long to jump into it. What I love about Gwent is it obliterates frustrations I have with other card games. With games where you have mana as a power source you often have games where you have too much mana or too many cards that need mana when you have none. Then you're just sitting there continuing to watch the other player take turns without being able to do anything. The same goes for games where you get power each turn automatically. If you get stuck with lots of cards with high power you again can't do anything. With Gwent you just focus on playing and having fun. You can play any of your cards at any time. You can spend money to get ahead in the game but if the free to play aspect is very generous. I already love the iOS version and am going to be playing every day.
ALBAAAAA!,
Should be the top online card game
I stopped playing a few years ago during open beta, right around the time of the infamous homecoming update, and recently returned due to the iOS release. Boy, have things changed for the better. There have definitely been some missteps along the development pathway that have cost the game some of its initial momentum, but the devs have definitely shown they’re willing to rectify their mistakes. With as much polish (heh) and detail that this game has, it’s a shame it doesn’t have a larger following currently. The gameplay has multiple layers of strategy, the art is gorgeous (just look at premium Seltkirk) and, speaking of premium, you earn rewards, both new cards and the currency to make them, incredibly quickly, so you’ll be able to make competitive decks soon after starting. Some concepts may seem difficult to comprehend at first, such as card advantage and when how to time your turns, but the learning stage doesn’t take long. All you need is to practice a little, or watch some of the excellent instructional videos online. Whether you’re new to the game or returning after a hiatus, there’s no time like the present to get into Gwent.
Greattobeincali,
Constant connection issue
I really want to like this game. I’ve been playing hearthstone for 5 years and this game has fresh mechanics and beautiful artwork. I also love that the heroes each come with 5 game impacting special abilities to choose from, compared to hearthstones single hero power, keeping the game fresh. 3 rounds is also a unique mechanic that introduces another layer of strategy.

I even poured $26 into packs. But in the end, I have had way too much lag and way too many connection issues. Many games, maybe half, are smooth like butter with no problems whatsoever. But the other half of the time , I’m stuck waiting to be able to make a move and often cannot even make a move and I’m forced to lose through no fault of my own. This is extremely frustrating and renders an otherwise awesome game basically unplayable. Please please fix this. I don’t understand how this game got 4.8 out of 5 with these major connectivity flaws. Hearthstone doesn’t have this problem. I wonder if there are intermittent issues happening only this week or this is just how it is always. Some of the reviews are complaining about it but not nearly enough for the extent of the problem so maybe it affects people differently or this is just a bad week. I’ve only had the game a week. Please fix this CD Projekt Red. Because you’d have an amazing game I’d it were playable.
JoeHoodoo,
Revised review after 2 weeks: It’s pretty great
I loved the Witcher trilogy on console and am enjoying this souped-up version of the in-game card game. It took a while but two weeks into it I’m winning maybe half the hands. The visuals are first-rate and the reward system is generous. I did drop the $30 on a starter pack and it helped, but isn’t mandatory. Anything you can buy you can also earn the old-fashioned way, by playing a lot. Patiently studying the decks and learning some tricks takes time but is enjoyable. It’s a complicated, challenging and enjoyable realm. Recommended.

Earlier:

First impression: Balance issue where I’ve been playing two days and I’m pitted against vastly superior deck. I’m still playing starter deck and opponent is whipping out artifacts and all sorts of combos and beats me in two rounds. I assume that by dropping $30 I can at least begin to feel competitive. Huge learning curve and I played the heck out of Gwent in the Wild Hunt on PS4. I don’t want to have to pay to compete while I’m still just beginning to learn the basics. Back to practice play I guess. Brutal learning curve — you’ve been warned.
kylejunn,
No region lock and disconnect ends in loss
This game likes to pair you up with people that live on the other side of the globe, where the lag is traumatising. Most of the time you’d sit there to be inevitably disconnected and the game will 100% counts it as a loss. There is no way to guarantee region lock, and even though I live in NA, I have been paired with people from China for about 50% of the matches.

Why do I think they’re from China? Well, here’s my theory. First, if not obvious enough, they have Chinese usernames. Second, because China censors and have their own system of internet, players have to use VPN in order to play this game. Why they would set their region to NA is beyond me, but I have a strong belief that this is the case. Depending on the time of day you play this game, the frequency that you’d encounter Chinese players would vary. If you work night shifts like me and play this game at odd hours, the number of Chinese players you’d encounter is abysmal. I have had 5 games back to back where the game just lags to a disconnect and the players usernames are indeed in Chinese letters. DO NOT mistake me for being racist or hateful of the Chinese, I love them and they are awesome. However, it is hard to enjoy a good game of Gwent with them when the game barely responds and gives you a loss because of network issues. Something has to be done.
grb grb,
Thank you CDPR
I’ve played Gwent since it’s release for the PlayStation I actually waited on it’s release! I’ve experienced the many many changes and updates, it’s a lot different from its release and pretty much nothing like the game in the Witcher 3 aside from the basic higher point count wins deal. The game is fun and requires some actual strategy and understanding of certain play styles, I read the reviews and see some people complaining about pay to win tactics and crap like music and design anyway I would be more than happy tell them that, I’ve played this game for two years or more and have never payed a dime! I win matches with ease forging cards with scraps that I’ve earned just by playing the game I’ve never felt pressured to or at a disadvantage for not spending which saying that’s rare is an understatement for a free to play game, strategy is needed to win not money. That being said I do feel guilty for not supporting this game and CDPR sooner, I plan on buying meteorite powder to make my favorite cards premium. Gwent is a love letter to Witcher fans, card game players or just gamers as a whole.
ralPhiezZay,
Account recovery/set up issues
I had signed up for the beta for this game and I thought it was great-minor issues to be worked out but great experience. I stopped playing after I figured out my skill level was a bit too low for this game. After looking for another app today I ran across this game again and decided to download. I wanted to create an account on my iPad Pro, and it wouldn’t recognize my Smart Keyboard or my Bluetooth keyboard. I tried making the account through apple, and it half worked the first time when I removed the iPad from its stand and used the touchscreen keypad. When I entered my chosen user name it wouldn’t allow me to create it since I had already used it for the beta, so I thought of the great idea to go back and try to log in with my old log in info for the beta and it wouldn’t let me. It said account was non-existent, and when I tried to go back and creat an account through apple again, it wouldn’t let me type- not even with the touchscreen keypad.

In super simple words, the one thing keeping me from playing this game is the fact that I cannot recover my account or create a new one.
awefields,
Game is fun but controls are unintuitive
I enjoy this game and have a few decks I can pilot pretty early. However, the touch controls leave much to be desired. Order abilities are sluggish and using a leaders command or orders with multiple charges has cost me multiple wins specifically on tablet. My main gripes are the following:
1. Using orders with multiple charges puts you in some kind of “command” mode where the game says “You did this once? How about you just do that again. I’ve over used abilities because of this and it’s happened more than once.
2. I frequently have the chained button reminding me to play something after I have played a card for my turn.
3. Card changes for cards I own aren’t noted. I only found out about some of the card changes after I have played them incorrectly. This problem is exacerbated on tablet because the card text is not displayed in a match to save screen space. You can view a card’s text by selecting them, but if I’ve played a card in my deck for at least 3-4 matches, I’ve already memorized what it does. Please tell me when they’re changed!
