Description

Hundreds of years before Geralt and the other witchers roamed the Continent, the Conjunction of Spheres brought endless ranks of monsters into the world. Humanity desperately needed a way to fight back the onslaught to survive.

Follow the journey of a young and ambitious mage, Alzur, and his companion Lily, who embark on a dangerous quest to create a living weapon that will eradicate the monster threat once and for all.

GWENT: Rogue Mage is a first single-player expansion to GWENT: The Witcher Card Game. It combines the best elements of roguelike, deckbuilding, and strategy games with the unique mechanics of GWENT card battles.

Legotti,
Quality, Matches a Bit Long.
Like the game. Think it’s mostly great. Do feel like the matches take a while, especially when you’re meant to traverse a whole map. I think some setting to hasten the games for people who want a shorter casual experience would be nice. Cut the deck size maybe? I’d like more matches of shorter length if I turn the game on for a brief moment.
I don’t like that there’s an energy bar with a timer in a $10 game. That exists in free games as a cash grab. I paid, so don’t make me wait an hour or more to continue if I run out of energy. I’ll have to discourage other people purchasing until it’s changed.
ChanTheMan482547,
Worth a try
First of all, any review complaining about recharging energy in a game you already paid for is wrong! The energy is used for each run and then completely refills when you start your next run even if you do them back to back. The game is a rogue-lite type deck builder game. The game itself is challenging but not impossible and really makes it fun as you have to seriously contemplate your next move. Any fan of Gwent will instantly fall in love and even if you just like the Witcher series I think you’ll enjoy it too. Story is cool as well as it’s about the creation of the Witchers. Fits screen well and no bugs I have run into. Money well spent for the fun I’ve had so far!
AlexMisak,
Great Single Player Gwent
Happy to get a single player Gwent game vs. the original PVP version. Tons of fun and the different decks provide a ton of variety and complexity. No “freemium” energy or timers here. Play as much as you want.

Only recommendation, and reason for 4 stars, is I wish there was a way to sync progress between multiple devices, specifically phone and iPad. Also based on limited testing on iPad Pro performance needs to be improved a bit.
GTjamone,
Great except for last card
I love this game except for one glaring aspect. The enemy is always the last to play a card (that’s not the issue) and the game moves on and declares defeat or victory without giving you a chance to find out how you won or lost (more importantly lost). There’s no way to go back and see the last enemy turn. For instance, on my last round, I ended my turn 32 points up on the enemy. On enemy’s last turn, lots of stuff happened very quickly and suddenly it shows my defeat by one point. I think this is a major oversight and very frustrating. It’s very annoying to lose on the last turn, but infuriating to not even know how or why!
Watchwire,
Gwent Singleplayer
I’ve been waiting for another single player experience after Gwent for so long after Thronebreaker. I love the rogue like aspects for this game but just wish they added the three rounds back in for boss fights or something as well as more deck building options. I really hope they continue on with the single player Gwent games. (Another review mentions energy or P2W aspects, there’s none of that here.)
WinJWat,
Initial 8 Hour Review
Overall, if you enjoyed Gwent - it’s a fun game. There’s some randomness to it where you’ll have a deck that simply gets hard countered by opponents on a good run, which can be frustrating, but overall enjoying my time so far.

8 hours has gotten me to stage 2 of the story (seems like there may be 6 stages in total?) and level 37 or so out of 100. Most decks unlocked, still getting “key cards” and all that jazz.
kenthutkool,
Game highly unstable iphone8p
Love the game despite the issues with the core gameplay loop. However the game crashes randomly on the iPhone 8p. It’s really annoying to lose progress with a random crash. This problem is also in regular Gwent. I would imagine if I had the newest iPhone this would not be a issue. So older iPhone users beware. Wish there was a graphics toggle or something. It’s not like the graphics are that intense so I don’t get why it would cause the app to crash.
jotclem,
Mostly fun; slow animations and unintelligible
The basic gameplay loop is fun. A few points against it:

- Waiting through extremely slow repetitive animations between turns is very much not fun. I get tired of this frequently and stop playing.
- When the game should take its time, it doesn’t. There is little or no time to understand the effect of enemy cards when they’re played. Instead, one has to find the card on the board and then read about what just happened.
- The game is poorly documented. Many mechanics aren’t easy to understand or are never explained at all.
- Sometimes extreme spikes in difficulty. It’s unclear whether I’m unlucky or not playing well.

If these things were improved, it would be a great game. In its current state it’s fine but not amazing.
Waifu Review,
Great game a bit different than Thronebreaker
Got a bit bored with Thronebreaker due to there not being many changes in runs and enjoy the somewhat random way of playing in Rogue Mage

Some of the bosses like bounty hunter are honestly much stronger than the elite bosses or final bosses which I find odd

Other than that the only bugs I’ve encountered so far are the arachnids 🤣
Eldade2453,
Nice game but currently has game breaking bugs
Dear CD project red.
I like your games m, including this one. However it’s crashes every 10 minutes. It also has gameplay bugs where the numbers are not being updated between turns or when the cards numbers are not being updated when upgrading. I hoped the cyberpunk fiasco would motivate you to not release broken games, but unfortunately it is not the case here.
Please fix the bugs
