Still on the fence
I decided to write a fresh review considering they have just released a new firmware update today. For the last 6 months I have been fighting with the app and loosing. Patterns did not work, can’t make lists or use the preloaded ones. Tech support could not do a thing no matter how many times I called. At times I’d get one to play and that’s it. Every time issues started, I had to do a full wipe of the app, redownload and start all over. The table itself is great, it was the app and firmware that was bugged. Now that we have a long awaited update, I’m going to finally download patterns (which I stopped doing after Christmas) and see if things are fixed. Im not going to give a great rating yet due to past problems, but we will see if it’s been corrected. I understand crap happens and everything will have growing pains so I’m trying to be patient.
Hot Chick with Brains,
Xmas Gift
I bought this for my hubby and gifted it to him at Christmas. I thought he could bring it to his office and it would be a neat conversation piece. But I really love it, too. So he decided to leave it at home so we can all enjoy it! And we do!
I’ve played with the colors and we change the design daily. (we set up a schedule- it turns off at 10:30pm and wipes the old design. At 5am it turns on and creates the new design we picked the night before. When we’re up at 6am, the new design is ready. Very cool feature). If we don’t really like how the design played out on the Drift, we just open the app and pick a new one. Very simple!
I have the iPhone 14 Pro. And I’ve never had an issue with the Drift app. My husband has a Samsung Galaxy (not sure on the model). His phone is a few years old. And he has no problem with the Drift app.
We love ours 😊

Pretty decent but needs more documentation
I’ve had my Drift for a few months now.

I think the app is pretty decent. It has a nice, clean UI, that’s pretty easy to navigate. Which is why it surprises me that I’m so confused by the “Schedule” settings.

I don’t understand what the dots on the days of the week mean.

I don’t understand why I can only select one day, and then there’s a checkbox that says, “Use these times on all selected days”? Like I know what it should mean but I don’t understand how it makes sense in the context of this UX functionality.

I don’t understand what “Keep sleep mode active at all times” means. What even is sleep mode? Does that mean the device goes to “sleep” rather than “turns off” outside the periods of the schedule? (And if that’s correct, I only just figured that out as I was typing this review.) But there’s no indication of what it means anywhere to be found.

I can’t find any documentation on the “Schedule” functionality. In the app or on the Homedics website.

I will say, the drift turns on at the time it’s supposed to turn on, and it does turn off at the time it’s supposed to turn off. So the feature works! I just wish I understood what that whole screen actually means.

So if the devs have any documentation about that feature, I would please love to see it!

Could Be Better
I was so thrilled to get my Drift. I love to watch it create and the programmable light is a great touch.
Regarding the snarky review about turning the table off, "...download the app...", the table can be turned off by pressing the button above the plug (long press for off, short press for on.
I was very turned off by the recent demand for unnecessary identifying information in order to use the table. This is just a marketing ploy for HomeMedics to sell information of Drift owners.
I'm really disappointed by the lack of new designs; just in time for Father's Day but no Mother's Day. Another brand has thousands of designs, adding new ones all the time. I've had my table for almost a year and I've gotten 1 update with new designs.
I know HomeMedics can do better. I understand it is not a tech company, but it's not brain surgery either.

Love the Drift, the app needs work
Love the Drift product! I could spend hours watching it (and sometimes do!). The app, however, is glitchy and requires me to uninstall and reinstall A LOT. New patterns won’t load, the app freezes, etc. Could really use more updates more often.

Also, one major thing I would LOVE to be able to do with my Drift is UPLOAD MY OWN PATTERNS! Or customize existing patterns. There has to be some way to do this, no? Please, please, please give us an upgrade that will allow us to do this! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Could use more features
I used to have the Sandscript from Think Geek but it sadly broke. My partner surprised me with the drift And it’s a great replacement, hypnotic to watch. The app has been working great so far however there is one feature the my prior sand table had and that I hope that they introduce in the near future. That would be the ability to create my own designs or paths I guess they would be called? The sandscript had knobs that you’d turn and it would change the path of the ball creating a whole new design. You never knew what it was going to end up looking like in the end, which I enjoyed. And also the ability to speed up the ball if I wanted, those two features would make it perfect. But highly recommend getting one.
Senhorbaker,
Gotta leave an honest review
I always wanted one of these, and my local Bed Bath and Beyond is going out of business, so they had these for a great price and I picked one up ($250, 16”). I was worried, reading reviews about the app, but I gotta say, the Drift and the app have worked flawlessly (this is after about 6 hours of nonstop use). I’ve tried several patterns, and this thing is amazing. It’s quick to respond to input, it’s intuitive and easy. And the table is mesmerizing. Might go pick ups some more to give as gifts. Awesome stuff.

Needs Improvement
The Drift product itself is great, but this app is lacking. It takes an inordinate amount of time to load the patterns, and the app won’t let you do anything else when a pattern is loading. In fact, I need to actively tap my screen to keep my phone from locking so it doesn’t interrupt the process. They could programmatically override the phone lock just like other apps. I should also be able to browse and queue to load other patterns while one is loading. Once a a pattern finally loads, I get this blocking “loading success” message which is completely unnecessary. Lastly, users should get notifications when new patterns are available.
Shashin S,
Great Concept !!! App needs some work
Love the product and the capability. App is simple to use and pretty intuitive.

Cons
1) Schedule feature is of no use. It does not save the schedule to the actual device. Every-time we reconnect to the device the schedule is reset. Also 2) We need the ability to store multiple time schedules for a day ( e.g. 8am to 10 am, 5pm to 8 pm )
3) provide the ability to upload custom patterns for a cost. Create a marketplace for users to share their patterns
BTarver,
Necessary app for a neat device
Love the Drift, and can watch it for hours. The app is simple to use, and does what is needed.

It’s moderately annoying to have to connect to the Drift each time the app is launched, and I’d love to have the ability to control how long a color transition takes place (in addition to the existing control over how often a transition occurs.) Other than those wishes, the app works as designed.
