Thank you so much to Tae Kim
Using only this app and WaniKani (to learn more kanji and vocab), with some time and effort, I learned to be conversational in Japanese and to be legitimately good at reading Japanese for comprehension. Trust me when I say that if you study this guide well, you’ll be rewarded as it seriously gave me everything I needed. Unlike many apps that start off with common phrases, this guide teaches you grammar from the bottom up so that you really get to know the language from the inside instead of having superficial knowledge based on arbitrary phrases.
I studied abroad in Japan for 4 months and was able to thrive thanks to this. Thanks so much for the work you’ve put in Tae Kim. I bought your book so that I could repay you for the great help you’ve been in my life.

Awesome App Legendary Content!!!
Really smooth app that actually has the same grammar from the free guide provided by Tae Kim! I'm so glad someone finally made the mobile version again in fact I'd say this was better than the predecessor! It actually comes with the exercises but in a separate section of the app! Of course the content is what's great about the app it has all of the grammar organized well and the tab bar where it's presented has a smooth transition as well as, it's easy to swipe between grammar points. I hope others are able to take notice because the app developer saved the day for Japanese language learners! Thanks for making the app possible because I was really hoping to have the guide back on iOS! It really is a blessing!

Great for Learning the Basics
This is one of the best guides for learning Japanese that you can find. Having it in the form of an App makes it so much easier. The only thing that I’ve noticed that’s missing from the old version of the App is the ability to click on highlighted kanji to see the reading in hiragana. If that is added back in it would be perfect.

Best app I’ve ever had
I never write reviews but this one deserves it. It is an extremely free and thorough app to learning Japanese. There are work sheets, examples, videos and many other learning tools. It is like taking a class on learning Japanese and the fact that it is free is amazing. I thought I’d have to pay a ton of money for something like this. I’m very impressed！

I wasn’t able to use this app anymore after iOS 11 but I’m glad you guys not only made this app compatible again but also added exercises separately. Really cool. I missed using this app and now I can go back to studying grammar again.

Extremely Useful
This app has an extremely useful and comprehensive guide to a lot of Japanese grammar. The only complaint I could possibly think of is that it’d be nice to have the articles in smaller chunks so it’s easier to find specific grammar.

Useful app, but needs some revision.
Useful, but there should be an introductory explanation of the particles and suffixes used. It was difficult for me to understand why they were using だ instead of です and so on, because I studied with a tutor that taught me formal Japanese primarily. It would have saved me a lot of time on google if I had understood that beforehand.

Needs better indexing
I can’t say much about how well it works if you’re just reading straight through, but it’s hard to go back and look something up. (E.g. If I’m trying to look up usage of など, afaict it’s impossible without skimming through the entire book.)
- the table of contents is very minimal and just lists chapter titles, not subsections
- it’s also narrower than the screen so you can’t even read the entire chapter title
- there’s no index (Tae Kim’s book didn’t have one since it’s on the web, so fair but…)
- there’s no search function
I think this would be a handy app if the table of contents were expanded and if there was a search function.

Amazing App.
I’ve been taking Japanese class now for a few months, but the textbook we have been using hasn’t been helpful (Minna no Nihongo), this app though is great for studying and learning. Highly recommend for anyone interested!!!
