Plum Village: Zen Guided Meditation App – Main Categories
===========================================

The Plum Village app is split into four easy-to-use categories – meditations, talks, resources, and bells of mindfulness:

MEDITATIONS

Meditation is a deep practice that helps us generate peace and calm, master our mind, develop a healthy headspace, and get deep insights into ourselves and the world around us.

Meditations include deep relaxations, guided contemplations, silent meditations, and eating meditations. Whether you have a little time or a lot, and whether you want to be on your cushion or applying mindfulness in your daily life, there are meditations to nourish, inspire, and incorporate into your daily routine.

TALKS

Listen and learn from the wisdom of Thich Nhat Hanh: in question-and-response format, or full-length teachings.
Ask Thay includes hundreds of real-life questions asked to the Zen Master, like “How can we let go of anger? and “How can I stop worrying?” His answers are compassionate and infused with insight.

Dharma Talks are teachings given by Thich Nhat Hanh on how to bring Buddhist wisdom and mindfulness into our life. Rather than discussing theoretical concepts, he focuses on direct and clear teachings to relieve suffering and create happiness in our day to day lives.

RESOURCES

In Resources you can find a library of daily practices, chants, poems, and songs. These bring to life the practices taught in Plum Village monasteries around the world and offer ways to bring mindfulness into our world, wherever we are.

BELL OF MINDFULNESS

In Plum Village monasteries bells of mindfulness chime at regular intervals. Everybody stops and takes three mindful breaths to pause from their thinking or talking, breathe, and return to their bodies. The Bell of Mindfulness allows us to have the same reminder on our phone.

We can customize the bell to chime at different time periods. Settings include:
• Start time / End time
• Chime intervals
• Bell volume
• Daily repeating schedule

Regular use of the Bell of Mindfulness will cultivate more calm and relaxation in your life.

Vacher Group,
Authentically good for me
I am a recovering addict, which for me means I haven’t consumed any drugs or alcohol for 25 years, and more important, everyday I contemplate quietly, and with mindfulness attempt to bring love and peace to my soul and those around me, failing frequently, and sometimes badly, but succeeding more often and sometimes in ways I did not think possible.

I have practiced mindfulness daily for many years. My practice has been insightful, challenging, sometimes too routine but finally in retrospect, clearly rewarding in terms of my ability to make decisions, communicate and take actions that reflect my loving intentions and have happiness.

The explosion of interest in mindfulness has led to many apps: Headspace, Calm, and others which are wonderful and each have a place. But since discovering Plum Village, after reading The Art of Communication, three years ago I have found a rich and practical daily source of focus. I use it daily and have great appreciation for the amazing gift. I tithe with gratitude and recommend strongly trying it if you are a beginner. Or perhaps if you want to deepen your practice. Peace, Dean V in Portland

This APP Could Nourish You for a Lifetime
This app is something I’ve been seeking for years but never knew existed. Grounded in Plum Village tradition Buddhism, this app gives you a easy to understand and practical way to bring mindfulness practice into you daily life. The resources offered are incredible! Books worth of information, guided meditation, video teachings.... and it’s all free. The most beautiful part is there’s nothing in this app that tries to sell you “mindfulness”. It’s not a promotion trying to get you to spend money on Thich’s books, or online courses or expensive app upgrades. No, all the information is just there! I feel that the app developers and Plum Village care so deeply about sharing the dharma that they’ve made it truly accessible to everyone. This app could nourish you for a lifetime. Subsequently it’s encouraged profound spiritual growth in such a short time, and has directed me to books by Thich I never would have found otherwise!
Robert Appino,
True gift of mindfulness- thank you
Firstly, to everyone who contributed to this app: thank you so much for putting time and loving energy into creating such a beautiful practice-nourishing resource.
I have enjoyed using the app multiple times a day for: silent sitting meditations, shorter meditations and throughout the rest of the day, listening to any time I have a free moment to be in touch with the practice of mindfulness. I have really enjoyed the short meditations that invite us to shine light on different parts: the body, thoughts / mind. The deep relaxations which I have been doing daily are a true gift. I have used these multiple times a day to stop and relax completely and catch up on much needed rest. I have found this so helpful.
It is really wonderful to have the brothers and sisters' varied contributions to the app. It is great to have the root mindfulness practices presented with invitations to shine light on different aspects of our practice.

All of the parts of the app are so useful and nourishing. I have benefitted much already from having everything on the app available every where at any time. The app is a calming anchor offering many kind opportunities and invitations to come back home to ourselves wherever we may be or whatever we are doing.
It is as though I am carrying a precious part of Plum Village with me to remind me of and enrich my practice anytime. It has been a joy sharing the app with family and sangha.
i will abide,
My “go to” meditation app!
I love this app. I usually begin the day with one of the timed “silent meditations with morning chant,” followed by a short teaching by Thich Nhat Hanh. And there is so much more. Before discovering this app, I had always had difficulty focusing on the breath when I sat— my mind would constantly wander and I would feel disoriented and lost. This app, through Thich Nhat Hanh’s gentle lessons and example, helped me learn to enjoy my in-breath and out-breath while meditating. It also inspired me to learn as much as I can about TNH’s teaching, which for me shines a bright light on the heart of the dharma. As I age and face the truths of impermanence, including the inevitability of death, I have found comfort and inspiration in the beautiful “meditation on death” located in the “more guided meditations” section of the PV app. It too is a breath-centered meditation and it gently leads me, every morning, to a deep appreciation of and gratitude for “the miracle of life.”Thank you, Plum Village!
hottiewax,
Presence is such a present
Been following Thich Nhat Hanh for over 15 years and have always dreamed of going to plum village. Now I have plum village in my pocket. Thank you thank you. Eternally grateful for this gift that I have shared with my friends and family also. There is something about his pace and manner of speaking that gives me permission to slow down, and be present. It’s like a slow-mo to still frame in movies where one can look around and enjoy, appreciate, take in the beauty of what is right there in front of you that you never stopped to look at and awe in wonder. It’s different than indulging in something distracting (our vices) to sweep problems under a rug, rather it gives you space to process and is the basis of healing. I hope everyone downloads this app and takes the time for themselves to be curious and explore all that these teachings have to offer. Thank you again.

Cultivating Peace
Thây , Thich Nhat Hanh, is a teacher. This app is a way to connect with his teachings. I can say with certainty that he has been one the most powerful guiding lights in my life, my dharma. I do not identify as a Buddhist, yet his teachings are a truth that I know I can trust to nourish my inner being. Similar to other “teachers” in our history, and there are other Buddhist teachers and practitioners of other religions who I think are beautiful and essential to learn from, but in my opinion Thây is a living exemplar of the Buddha’s teachings, he is what inner peace looks like and shows people that happiness and change is attainable even when the world around us seems to be in a constant state of turmoil. He will be 94 and when he is no longer here with us in this physical reality, the people who follow in his footsteps will be the fruit of his teachings and because of this I believe Thây will always be here to help.
PhaedraSv,
Comfort and Connection
I have an old audio book recording of Thich Nat Hahn inviting the bells of Plum Village to sound for me, for my daily practice. I have played it over, and over and over for many years and find it my favorite meditation practice in a sea of apps and choices. I still get a profound shiver when I hear his voice say, “You are alive. To be alive is a wonder.” It is the most comforting sound in my life. This app has so many of his recorded teachings, and from those carrying the practice forward. They are beautifully produced and reveal snip-its of life at Plum Village. They help me feel connected in some small way. I love being able to set a reminder bell with my favorite resonate bell as an immediate reminder to come home to myself. Thank you for all the tools and practices you have made so readily available in this thoughtful and well designed app.
Robin G. ,
This App is a True Gift
The best meditation app I’ve used- and it’s so much more than just meditation. It’s like a full retreat center I can visit anytime, for free. After practicing simple meditation for 8 years or so, I decided I wanted to take a deeper dive into Buddhism and learn how to cultivate a calmer, friendlier mind. Plum Village is just the ticket. Deep relaxation exercises feel like a wonderful massage for my heart and mind; dharma talks and texts help me deepen my practice. I’m taking the 40 Tenets of Plum Village class using the app and it’s wonderful.

The simple, elegant interface is a joy to use and provides a calm, centered experience (unlike other, “busier” apps that sometimes seem to undermine the peace of mind they are attempting to create).

Thank you to the sisters and brothers who make this invaluable, life-changing content available to all of us! You’re making the world a kinder place.
this is reduculious,
Mindfulness and meditation as taught by Thich Nhat Hanh saved my life.
The teaching of Buddhism could be the salvation of the world! Religion is often frowned upon. As a Catholic I have experienced both Conservative and Liberal extremism.
As human beings we all see we have differences in education and opinion.
History has proven that if we do not learn from our past mistakes we are doomed to repeat them.
In truth humanity has three word that are essential to understanding and learning how to have mercy. If we can use compassion to have faith in ourselves, humanity, and our Higher Power (For me The Divine Trinity). We can have hope in our selves, humanity and our Higher Power.
The key is ,and and will always be love.
With love comes compassion, mercy, empathy, all of the greatest qualities of the human race.
And as humans we all know seek one thing. We all have that one thing in common.
PEACE!
Thank you Plum Village for your support. Your love saved a disabled veteran with severe brain injury from being a danger to himself, his family, and humanity!
I thank my God for your support all of the years that you have served me.
And I hope that my gratitude is enough to make a difference. Because I am a poor soul who would not have survived without you . You being ,the Buddhist Community of Plum Village.
NoelleZNad,
An app that goes straight to the source
The western world has somewhat recently “discovered ” mindfulness. I have found that, as a result, there are many people (and therefore apps) that try to give it a trendy flare and westernized spin that is wholly unnecessary...and usually misses the mark.
When I first started reading the writings of Thich Nhat Hanh and the Order of Interbeing, I recognized it as a pure source of mindfulness instruction. I have been practicing mindfulness for years but never downloaded an app (for the reason stated above) until I discover this one. It does not disappoint. There is no money-making agenda, no attempt at trendiness. It is simply an extension of Thay’s outreach - an invitation to join for a meditation or teaching in an accessible and simple format with a true zen master and those who have studied under him. It is the only meditation app I use, it is the only meditation app I need.
