wild4gadgets,
Great app for tracking activity and inspiring workouts
I use Vitality Today to upload my activity stats to Activity, which makes earning points very easy since it integrates with Apple Health, which automatically collects activity data from my phone, Apple Watch, etc. I also love the ability to quickly track my Vitality points and when I’m ready to spend the points, it also makes that easy. It’s also easy to use the app for earning points from gym visits and participating in events like races. Lastly I like the ability to select and track personal pathways through the app. Overall I’m very pleased with the app and highly recommend it to anyone that’s a Vitality user.

Sleep function needs work & more activity submission options
Overall a decent app, but the sleep function only works about half the time. Only about half the days of successful 8-hour nights actually stick and get recorded on the 30-day cycle.

Another way the app could be improved is by adding more options to the activity submission form. For example, the only workout submission option there is is “gym workout,” which is 10 points. I take a High Intensity Interval Training class twice every week, which should get me more points than a “standard workout,” but there’s no way to submit higher-intensity gym activities/classes, so I’m missing out on hundreds of points just because I don’t have a wrist activity tracker that tracks my heart rate during those classes and would likely result in at least getting some credit for the high-intensity HIIT classes and circuit training I do several times per week. Another good addition to that form would be dance/movement classes. That is just as intense a workout as anything else, if not more intense, and should be something that can be given credit for.
Yulie337,
Sleep tracking is horrible
I have to use this app in order to get HSA contributions from my employer. There are two major issues that I have with the app. Sleep and meditation tracking.
The sleep tracker stops and starts over if you wake up. It is rare that anyone has 8 straight hours of uninterrupted sleep. Most of us wake up at least a few times in the night. Usually to use the bathroom, or just a quick awakening we don’t even remember before falling back asleep. The expected straight 8 hours uninterrupted expectation is unrealistic. Vitality already has the ability to sync some information with Apple Health. It should allow you to sync your sleep from apps that realistically track your sleep patterns such as FitBit and AppleWatch.
Second is the way mindfulness is tracked. Unless you have an AppleWatch, there is no way to track mindfulness sessions without paying for an expensive mindfulness app. There are free ones out there, but Vitality only tracks from two that you must pay for.
lake serious,
Invasion of Privacy and Poorly Timed Maintenance
The app works great for monitoring your vitality points and checking up on reaching your company’s point goals. The UI can use some serious updating but navigation is satisfactory at best.

However that’s where the advantages of the app end. A huge negative is having to allow the app to ALWAYS track your location. In order to be able to log your gym workouts to qualify for gym membership reimbursement the app requires that it is given permission to monitor your location 24/7. This is an invasion of privacy. Allowing the app to monitor my location “while using the app” would get this app another 4 stars. There is no logical reason why this app has to has 24/7 access to your location.

Another problem with the app is poorly timed maintenance outages. I have arrived at the gym after work multiple times now only to have the app be unavailable due to “app maintenance.” I understand that all apps need maintenance but this can definitely be timed better. Scheduling maintenance during peak workout hours is an armature move. Maintenance should be scheduled over night during non peak workout hours.
Anna2026,
Misses days of steps consistently
Almost every month I notice that the app didn’t log my steps for 5 or 6 random days even though I am connected to Bluetooth and log in to The app regularly. Then I have to comb through the missing days and do screen shots of my steps in the health app and send them to vitality in order to get credit. If I don’t do it in time, apparently their app not connecting properly is my problem, not theirs. It causes me to have to make payments on my Apple Watch when I had enough steps to get that month totally covered. I can see it happening once, but it’s happened 12 times in 23 months so far. It’s quite annoying, and not about the money really. The 5 or 10 dollars I end up paying is not worth the time it takes fix their issue, but it’s the principal. Vitality is not honoring their contract to me. If it worked smoothly, this would be a great motivating app.
Fitz-Arm,
Great motivational tool!
I’ve always been relatively healthy and active, but I find that being able to earn points has pushed me to work even harder to maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle. If I’ve had a long, sedentary day at work, I take an extra evening walk so that I can get my 10,000 steps in. Not only do I have fun earning the points, but that activity after a day of sitting makes my posture straighter and I can tell I sleep better because of the fresh air and calories I burned later in the day. Vitality also has kept me on track with yearly medical activities (flu shot, mammogram, etc.) that are easy to skip when I get busy. My dog loves all the walking and gets great checkups at the vet also. Thanks for a great program.
ehazaly,
Great!
Great application! It gets you motivated and educated about almost everything related to health. You can earn points and get gift cards, or you can buy items from their store. It is so rewarding, because you complete something, and you literally get rewarded for it (for your sleep, activities, goal etc.) The challenges are also give you the opportunity to challenge yourself, and have fun of course. It is also a reminder for your annual check ups. If you are an active person, or want to be one, this is the right application.
urawizardhaylie,
Confusing and manual
This app requires me to verify my email EVERY time I log in, even if I tell it not to “challenge me in this device for 180 days”. Additionally, the home page is a mess and it’s next to impossible to tell what challenges I am participating in or what progress I’ve made. The points system is bonkers, you know what a 10,000 step work out is? A STANDARD workout… I was jogging like an idiot before I realized my plans would reward me more for other activities. The worst thing by far is that you must log in every month (at least) otherwise the app stops rewarding you for workouts. It’s all just very frustrating, and once last year, my password just reset itself and I lost two months worth of data because I got so sick of logging in.
W1lly T,
App Locking Up
It says I have a “wheel spin” expiring today, but the app locks-up everytime I go to claim the $5 gift certificate. App has worked fine up until this first time I’ve actually tried to redeem a reward. 🤔 Update: resolved a day or two later with no loss of gift certificate. 😅 Update: It is now 6 months from original post and experiencing a similar issue. To redeem “Vitality Bucks” for gift cards, the app redirects you to a web browser and that process works just fine. However, the process of attaining a gift card from a “Vitality Active Reward” free spin can apparently only be done in the app and this process seems to need work. Update: On Feb 10 I spun the wheel and won a $5 gift certificate. It’s now Feb 15 and I still don’t have it.
Justin Terence,
Limited in data access
This would work great if I had an extra fitness device independently tracking my heart rate, I think. I do not and at this point don’t want to buy one. My phone doesn’t support iOS 13 so I don’t plan on getting an apple watch soon.
As it is I row four times on my concept 2 rower at home, and almost always row 300+ calorie workouts. I have the erg data app on my phone for concept 2 that captures this data, but the vitality app will not read this data or the kcals that the ErgData shares with my health app. I then don’t get full credit for my workouts.
Maybe in the future I will get another device, but right now it would be nice if it could read the information off of other health related apps.
