Solid app, needs a cloud save feature
For the most part, this is a very solid app. The Bluetooth connection happens almost instantly with the dumbbells. The 6 week challenge is a good starting point and the addition of targeted workouts is great. I have one issue however and that is the lack of a cloud saving feature. The SelectTech stand comes with a tablet holder and I use that to display my workouts as I’m going through them so it’s on a larger screen while also using my phone on breaks if necessary. The problem with this is that the Apple health app is not available on iPads so you cannot sync the workout. Your only choices are to not sync to Apple health or not use a tablet which clearly by the stand’s own design it expects you to use.

I’m assuming all the workout data is stored on a local database on the device itself which kinda stinks. This means if you get a new device or uninstall the app for whatever reason, you will lose all progress. I understand this is not a trivial feature, but a simple login with cloud storage would greatly benefit this app. Otherwise, maybe an import/export utility could work to send data to a phone to sync with health?

Overall that’s my only gripe. App runs well and the content is very solid.

Almost great
I really like the timing, exercises and videos in this app. This app works good for tracking workouts. But only for the bow flex weights. I would recommend 4 changes that would make it significantly better, I think.
1. Add the most common free weight/bench exercises that you can’t use the bow flex weights for. For example, pull ups, chest presses or squats using barbells.
2. I wish you could do multiple exercises one after another in the same rep like HIIT. Like squats, then shoulder presses and the burpees with a variable time between them.
3. I think it would great if you could use the progression for exercises and how you’ve improved over time. And then compare it to similar exercises in your workout.
4. And finally, I think a button in the post exercises screen that you could input how hard it was would be nice. Was it too easy and I should’ve gone harder or was that muscle failure?

There's only one reason it's not 5 stars
My one complaint is that rep counter on the weights isn't always 100% accurate (not a big deal, it counts correctly MOST of the time), but when it doesn't count a few reps in a row, or if you take your time getting set, it thinks you've stopped and stops that workout. Even that's ok, but the problem is you can't reset that workout. If you're doing two sets of tricep extensions, and it stops on the first, you can only go forward and do the second... You can't go restart the first. If it screws up on both, you don't get either of them properly tracked.

Otherwise...The app is pretty cool and helpful for someone like me (haven't lifted weights in years and needs a plan laid out in advance). It has a 6 week workout plan that's pretty nice, or you can "just lift" and it'll track your reps and weight.

Disappointed
I just got the weights for Christmas and was stoked to start working out. I found the app and used it for the first time today. Like some other reviews, it’s lacking. I was hoping to find multiple programs for beginner, intermediate and expert. Something to get you started and so on. There is one program called the six week challenge. After that, if you want something else, you make it yourself. I assume this may not be an issue for folks who are more accustomed to working out but for a novice like me, it’s an issue. I have no idea where to start or which exercises work well with others or do not work well. I am aware that I can research through a third party and then come back and build my own but what’s the point. Why not just use a third party then. I am very surprised for an app that is multiple years old that it doesn’t have a lot. The best example I have is the Nike app. I use it frequently and they have multiple programs for different levels and such. I was expecting a lot more and found less.

Much better
Thank you for listening to your customers. Ability to play music is great. One improvement to this feature would be able to see the music pause and forward and backward button on screen, because once exit SelectTech screen it loses BT connection and sometimes interrupts the 6 week workout, then it loses all progress for that day. Realize one can create workouts and I like that feature, but having more workouts and making it easier to edit and create workouts would be an improvement. I love the dumbbells and App. Both together challenge me and allows me to see my progress (previous weight used for that exercise), and keeps me coming back for more. Thank you!

Really Like the 6 Week Challenge!
A nice app for someone who is looking for workouts but doesn’t want to think about having to put one together. Really enjoying the 6 week challenge and when it is over likely use it to build out a consistent plan.

It would be nice if the slider showed the offsetting weights. Since you can set the dumbbells to offset weights it would be nice if you can actually choose them in the app during the exercise.

The other things is the sets on “one sided” exercises like the one arm row. If you have an odd number of sets then you work one side more than the other. I think for one sided exercise you need to round the set up or down to an even number.

Great workout app for the Bowflex dumbbells
I love this app. I started off with the 6-week challenge when I got my new Bowflex 552 adjustable dumbbells. Finished that, and now I just do “Choose a Workout” and work on back, chest, shoulders, etc.

If I had any suggestion for improvement, it would be to have an option to see a preview video (instead of just a still image) of the workout they’re about to do before the workout timer starts so the user can estimate how much weight they think they’ll be able to lift for that particular exercise.

Also, not sure if anyone else has this issue, but I use the app on my phone (as opposed to an iPad), and if I happen to get a call in the middle of a workout, it causes the app to crash and I lose all progress for my entire session. Quite annoying. I have to put the phone in “Do not disturb” mode so no calls come through.

These are small things though and overall I really like the app and it complements the Bowflex 552 adjustable dumbbells nicely.

Good app, but could be better
I use this app most days for workouts with my dumbbells. I think the Bowflex app developers are missing a great opportunity to sell more equipment by integrating their newer SelectTech gear (kettle bells, curl bar, etc.) into the app. I would buy the curl bar if they did that. You should be able to select which gear you have (including the bench) to filter which exercises you can do. They should also allow for more “no equipment” options, to allow people to add in pull ups, crunches, etc. Finally, they should make it integrate better with the Apple Move Ring, so calories are captured and count toward Move Ring completion.

What an improvement!
I purchased the 560 back in 2016 and was happy with the dumbbells but the app needed improvement. I gotta say with the last update they have greatly improved the app. Now you can listen to music while using the app and also it gives you the last weight you used on your last rep of a specific exercise. There is still a problem keeping an accurate count on certain exercises. I notice this happens on some complicated exercises like the lunge chest rotation and the front lateral shoulder raises. Also if bowflex can add more workouts aside from the 6 week challenge. Thank you for the update bowflex.

I really like this AP but....
I really like this ap but I wish they would fix or offer the following adjustments:
1) ceiling height limitation toggle: not everyone has the benefit of a huge gymnasium, working out in my 7’ tall ceiling basement doesn’t allow me to do jumping burpees etc. simply have a toggle to exchange exercises needing higher ceilings
2) the AP crashes allot. Going back and forth shouldn’t cause it to crash so much.
3) allow me to fast forward a rest period but still give me a 3-5 second notice
4) I’ve forgotten to hit “done” button before and would like the ability to skip a day if possible.
