Fligglebleh,
A must-have!
I played the original flash version and its sequel a decade ago. Instantly loved them. This is version, much like the originals, is no different. It being 100% free on the App Store for such a good turn-based RPG, as well as sticking to its roots the way every remake should, is a testament to that.

Sonny has a unique setting with a unique storyline but very logical game mechanics and an in-depth strategic but amicable play style. Easy to play for players of all skill, it still rewards those who Iike to put in that extra little strategic effort.

I do not enjoy writing reviews but I cannot express how worthwhile this game is so it truly deserves one. The only thing I could recommend (which is ironic since it wouldn’t be 100% free anymore) is giving the option to gain the +20% exp/money bonus permanently with no ads for a small price. Even so, who cares? The game is easily playable and beatable without the bonus and therefore without even sitting through one ad. There’s absolutely no reason not to get this game.
Jonas Schlicter,
I want to like this
Sonny was a game I remember playing when I was pretty young, procrastinating during and between classes and generally doing something I could enjoy. When I tried playing it more in depth, though, I started to realize how heavily it relied on grinding to extend the gameplay to a significant length. Plus, the original games had the issue of being horrendously unbalanced as certain play styles were complete garbage. When I saw this game was coming out I was kind of excited. I figured after so much time there would have been so much room to fix what made the game a slog years ago. Unfortunately, all I can say that improved were the graphics. I found that just about every major issue the old games had is present in this. The game will start fun, but abruptly hit a wall where everything is far stronger than your characters can handle, forcing you to actively grind for a very long time just to beat a boring level with waves of repeated damage sponges. I really wanted to give the game a chance to shine and prove my expectations wrong, but they turned out to be completely accurate. I feel that this is at least in part due to the nature of turn based rpgs of this format, but I still believe it could work if grinding didn’t need to happen, forsaken for more story and side quests to develop the characters.

Updated review
Okay, so first of all, I'm a huge fan of sonny 2. So I was really excited to play this. I was having fun in the first 2 or so zones it got more frustrating, but doable. I'm at Blackhall Keep now I think. I'm not saying I want this to be a mindless phone game, but it's nearly impossible. What's the point of having a skill tree where you can choose your path when only one path works? Come to think of it, I don't even know if one of them will work to get me through this game (I see the respec button, but I shouldn't have to use it between every zone or every battle). I'm up for a challenge, but! If one of my party members dies (and others are critically low) before we even get to our turn, it's broken. It just is. At least maybe have different difficulty settings or something. I don't want to uninstall because the gameplay is fun, but the challenge is too unrealistic.
Plus there's a glitch with sound- if you turn off sound and music, then end a battle, it'll come back on, but that's the LEAST of my problems. I have faith in this game still, but I am just not going to play it further or improve my review until I can feel like it's actually possible.

Using Right Skill & Equipment is Important
I’ve beaten the game 3 times as Legend (without any training) using different strains each time so I can say it’s possible to beat the game with any strain. It’s an awesome strategy game! The important thing is to use the right skill set tailored to the enemies you’re facing for that round so be prepared to respec your skill set whenever you come across a mini-boss. Also, make sure your using the right set of equipment that complements your skill set. You should expect to upgrade every team members’ equipment at each new location. You shouldn’t waste any money to upgrade the stats on the equipment. The most expensive equipment is not always the best choice. While certain strains will work better with each other, it is not a critical factor in beating the game as Legend. Lastly, picking the right teammates that complement your overall strategy should not be overlooked.

Needs work
I love the series, and have beaten all the computer versions, but this is very buggy. A lot of the abilities just stop working in later stages. Past the fire stage, a lot of my abilities won’t do their entire ability. One of my shadow moves that heals, applied haste, and refreshes the last used move, won’t refresh anymore, it just doesn’t. As well, occasionally if I try to use a move after just evolving it, it simply won’t do anything. My character will just stand there and my turn will pass. When it becomes my turn again the move is on cool down even though nothing happened. Another buggy move is when I attempt to silence my enemies abilities. The move will hit and the silence will apply, but then they will use the move I silenced again right away, as if I never silenced them at all. The game can be really hard in some areas but I still find the game enjoyable, after all, is it really fun if you can beat it so soon? But it gets to the point where it can be really grindy. But as a whole I really like the game and the series.
Abarmicor,
Great game However it has potential to improve
Just le the other reviews. I am a huge fan of the Sony Pc version. This game is great, and has a very good story. However the abilities and skill trees aren’t very balanced. On my first play through I chose nature and ended up dying every 20 minutes and by the time I got to act 2 I was forced to delete my progress. On my second play through I chose rock. Rock has great armor but it’s attacks aren’t good enough for later content past act 1 1/2. So then I had to go back a third time and now I’m stuck with lightning which so far has worked out for the best. But then again why should you even get to choose if players are going to have to go back and replay the whole thing. So even though I love this game, I would probably suggest to the developers to make a semi extensive Rebalancing Update. But besides those issues the game is great and Like I said above I love the Sonny games. I also eagerly wait to reach the next chapter in the story.

Funothing2,
Good, but a let down from the original
I loved the OG Sonny (and Sonny 2) when I played the flash version. It was easily my favorite flash game. While I am so happy that it’s made it to IOS, I think there are two major pitfalls:

1- No attack animations: Sonny is just this default being that punches with his first. One of the things I loved about the last game was the customization, yet weapons and armor do not even appear on your characters. Which leads to the second point.

2- No armor/weapon visuals: throughout the game, there is no visual indication of Sonny becoming more bad*ss. This was one of the best parts of the last game. I think this version will gain a lot by reintegrating armor visuals on the characters. The designs in the flash games were so good! It always provided great satisfaction to progress and acquire new and better armor/weapons. Now, without the visualization of new armor, I feel like there is nowhere near that same amount of satisfaction

Devs, please stick to your roots here! What’s the point of getting better and sicker armor and weapons if you can’t even see them?? I hope you consider this in an upcoming update, and I will edit my review accordingly. Apologizes for being critical, but OG Sonny is on such a high pedestal from my early gaming days
Boomboy51,
Not ready to give a 5 ⭐️ rating
I read a bunch of bad reviews, but gotta say, a little patience at the beginning and lvl 2 is a cinch! And once you get how it works, it is really addictive. The story line is awesome, tongue in cheek cute, and honestly, the most important? I FINALLY found a true SRPG game. I hate wars and cheats and hacks and bullies and hatred found on ALL games nowadays. I searched for months and found THIS! I am only on story board 4. And no mention of joining guilds, or “be one with war”. “Hurt your fellow humans and laugh about it to the world. Maybe later it will ruin my euphoria, with a new (unwanted) need to join others, but for now, thank you. Only 1 issue that needs addressing and another that irks me. First, there really needs to be a settings tab for “contact us” and share on FB, Twitter, etc. Second tho, I really hate all the ads I have watch to get only 20% more exp or gold. But yeah, 4 ⭐️ for now!
Arbiter191,
Great remake overall
Anyone who played the original Sonny and its sequel will probably love this game. It’s an interesting take on the story that combines elements from both games. The combat is better than ever, except towards the end of the game the fights get a little bit too gimmicky. The art style and cutscenes are great as well, and the cast of characters is certainly an improvement from the original two. The only real gripe with this game is that unlike the originals, equipping different gear doesn’t change your character’s appearance, not all of the lines of dialogue are fully voice acted, and the character models don’t actually move, they are images essentially. But these minor complaints are nothing compared to the amount of fun this game is and it is certainly worth a download.
Fuglimeister,
Not your father's Sonny…
As a die hard fan of the original Sonny and Sonny 2, I was ready beyond belief for this game. I was initially disheartened by the fact that it was coming to iOS and not on PC, and even more disheartened when my old terrible phone couldn't play it. But now that I have a better device and have been able to play this game, I can honestly say that I've enjoyed it so far. My complaints are rather similar to my peers (too difficult, no cosmetic change with equipment, etc.) but I've still enjoyed my time with it up to this point. My only real suggestions would be to increase how much money you got from every fight, and just make pretty much every enemy beyond zone 3 easier to fight (lower health, lower damage, etc). I know I'm a little late to the party, but I do hope that these get addressed at some point. Until then, keep up the great work.
