MR4161,
Wonderful program
First and foremost Dr. Brewer is like a breath of fresh air. Anxiety doesn’t have to be managed or dealt with forever. It can be truly overcome. His program has been fundamental for me in overcoming anxiety. I would be remiss to leave out the other helpful tools along this journey. I was not a long time anxiety sufferer. It came on fast and out of nowhere and spun me into a panic. I had tried to use tools from the DARE program but the anxiety was deep in my subconscious, and I could not always get out. I turned to medication (SSRI) to help clear the fog and calm my nervous system down so I could start processing what was happening. I implemented the DARE program and meditation from day one. As my journey progressed I found Dr. Brewer. Him and his program has been life changing. The tools I have found most helpful have been SSRI (although I don’t think that is necessary for everyone. Again I was in panic mode and could not get out), DARE program (book and app), The wisdom of anxiety, The power of positive thinking, and Unwinding anxiety (book and app). It takes work. You have to be a student. A lifelong student. But the reward is freedom. Absolute freedom. What is better than that?

Life Changing
While this app isn’t free, it’s a bargain compared to seeing a therapist. First, a therapist that’s trained in what you need is hard to find, and let’s face it: simply finding any therapist is an onerous task. As a public school employee, I was severely stressed after coping with the political and social fallout from the pandemic. My husband had read about Unwinding Anxiety and suggested I try it. Hey, I’ve wasted 30 bucks before, so why not? It didn’t seem like a big gamble.

I was only a couple days into the lessons when it became obvious that this app was amazing. I’ve been using a year, and my anxiety—and my relationship to it—is heathy and much improved. The app gives you easy-to-understand-tools and explains how and why these tools work with your brain, rather than trying to change through will power or similar. Hey, I don’t know about you, but one bad night’s sleep and my will power is out the window. What more can I say? Unwinding Anxiety is life changing, and you don’t need to be a hot mess before you try it. If you have ever had anxiety, i.e., are you human, then it will help you! Go for it!
Lifeintokyo,
Not his area of expertise
Dr Brewer has done great research and is a leading expert in addiction recovery. His work on smoking cessation and overeating is great. Check out his website— it’s totally built around helping people break bad habits. The problem is that it doesn’t really apply to treating anxiety. When you use this app, you feel like his methods are being shoe-horned to fit into the “anxiety” box.

The whole concept is identifying Triggers and Behaviors. You then evaluate your behaviors to see if they’re serving you. This is great for overeating— figure out why you overeat, and learn to ride out cravings without binging. But for anxiety, it’s less clear. In this app he says that “anxious thinking” is a habit and we can learn to break it. Okay... I sort of follow that. But the deeper you go with the app (I did all the main level modules) the more you realize that it doesn’t really apply. Thought patterns aren’t exactly the same as behaviors (where you can just choose not to smoke in any given moment, even though it may feel difficult) but he is trying to use all the same strategies.

There is definitely some value here. I love learning to be curious about my anxiety, and learning to “ride the wave” and move through it. But the explanations of Trigger-Behavior-Result just aren’t the same as they would be for compulsive eating or smoking.

Victory Through Conscious Living
Unwinding Anxiety is simply the best app I have ever used to deal with my anxiety. I have used it for 8 weeks and find it life changing. The 30-day core program guides you at your own pace through the science of how your mind works and what you can do with this information to permanently change your worry habit patterns. Dr. Brewer is extremely knowledgeable and experienced and brings a very practical, supportive approach to guide you through the program. (Having attended one of his retreats, I can also say he follows his own advice.)

The app extends beyond the core program with 9 weeks of additional modules for you to further explore the key principles to deepen your understanding of your mind and to practice forming a new relationship with your thoughts and worries through the art of conscious living.

Dr. Brewer and his team support the app, the online community and you by enabling you to ask questions and get specific answers to help you progress. In my experience it is as good as it gets. But don’t believe me, try it for yourself....
tphigginsesq,
Connecting the dots
Many of the elements of this approach are familiar from my other attempts to adopt meditation, mindfulness and other practices as a way to deal with stress, anxiety and the baggage of life’s trauma. Attempts made since counseling as a kid after family trauma and several other stops along my 55 plus years. As an educator, mentor and coach myself, I appreciate the lesson plan, the clear intent and effort to tie the science to these strategies and the pace and flexibility of this program. I have confidence that this program will help me adopt these practices in a way that benefits me and more important, the people and mission I serve. As with a Yoga practice I began several years ago to deal with an injured back, where my 6 foot 5 inch tall and 245 pound body may need a few more blocks or props than another person in the same pose, my implementation and practice of these methods won’t look the same. But for the first time, I feel confident that I understand how I can adopt these practices and use these tools. And that line is a weight off my shoulders.
greatful gal,
Practical, supportive and empowering
Dr. Brewer’s unwinding anxiety app is a powerful facilitator of change, by Inviting you to get to know you with a curious and gentle approach tuning into what your body is sharing with you in the moment. I love the pace, common sense approach of each module, and cannot say enough good things about the supportive community of other participants and facilitators. I started with the eat right now app, and learned a lot about myself, and recognized that my food habits were connected to anxiety. Both are wonderful apps that you can personalize. This experience is so much different than the traditional “will power” and “grit yourself through it” type New Years resolution approaches. (And you can nerd out on how the brain works, will power, not actually the most powerful part of our brain!) the app provides tools that strengthened awareness of my thinking and allowed me to create a foundation of acceptance and self appreciation. Judd and his team are sincere and awesome at what they do. Invite you give it a try!
guarimn,
trains your mind
ME-a huge overthinker, and by choice, choosing to abstain from content.... for example reading, clicking on links, watching videos, podcasts, or other stuff which brings my mental activity up.

At the time I started this program I was not yet abstaining from content. Bravely and joyfully, I gobbled up a lesson per day. While part of me thinks It was to fast, I must say that the information was presented a good way that really helped me learn quickly- clear, consice, and with a light touch (or smile) that really helped me take the leap of faith I needed to really start practicing this stuff.

I want to add that there are are different exercises, called check ins, and stress tests, that have been training me to alocate more awareness to my other sences, and focus my attention mindful/skillful way. There is also a community where you can share your experiences and offer support to to others- Committing to doing one journal entry a day reeled me back in when I lost touch with the program and my goals.
Starr Allbright,
The best program ever for anxiety!
I have suffered over 40 years with severe and chronic panic disorder. The only thing that currently stops my panic attacks are with the drug Xanax as I’ve tried everything else and nothing else works but that. I’ve been on Xanax, my whole life and I want to be free from it. This program that I’m now listening to unwinding anxiety is helping me to realize that I might be able to manage my anxiety with my mind versus using a drug. Just being mindful alone has paid huge dividends with regards to being aware of my anxiety loops, and their continual response loops to those anxieties within my body and my mind. This was recommended to me by my therapist, and it is one of the most amazing programs that I’ve ever heard! If any of you think that you were suffering in any way from Anxiety this program is for you, and even for people who are not anxious, even they could benefit from this!
cwhy89,
This works 100%
I’ll first say that I’ve been practicing mindfulness for a few years now, mainly to treat chronic GAD and social anxiety.

Anything having to do with mindfulness takes a lot of time and practice. The Unwinding Anxiety program is no different. It’s not an overnight cure, but it is super powerful if you stick with it and simply make the time to show up and practice every day.

I’ve been through the Unwinding Anxiety program twice now. After the first time I noticed huge changes in how I experienced and habitually responded to feelings of anxiety.

After the second time, I can now say that I’ve been able to reduce what used to be constant daily, intense GAD to levels that are barely noticeable each day, and I’m also having chunks of days where I truly feel ZERO anxiety.

Now, when I experience anxious feelings, I’m able to respond to them in a healthy, mindful way. I can simply watch them come and go, and the more I do this, the less frequently they come, and the less intensely they come.

I’ve also been able to successfully use these techniques to manage other strong emotions like when feelings of anger, frustration, or deep sadness arise.

If you struggle with anxiety, PLEASE give this a try and give it time, especially if you’ve never tried mindfulness before. It is a life changer, and it truly allows you to overcome anxiety in a healthy way!
Klynnw11,
The Best I’ve found
I don’t usually write reviews, but I have been suffering for so long, to the point of not being able to function normally in my daily life, because of my severe anxiety and panic. I’m so grateful I happened to see Dr Brewer on Dr Oz, and decided to try yet one more thing.
I’m so glad I did! Dr. Brewer really gets it. I don’t know how someone could “get it” so clearly unless they’ve been there themselves, but everything he says rings true for me. And it helps me explain (even to myself), what I’ve been going thru for decades, but have had a difficult time trying to explain to my family and friends.
I have spent a fortune trying to get help, so was happy to get to try the trial period, and now feel fine about paying for this much needed help.
I know I’ve got a long way to go, but I think Dr Brewers program is the one that is finally going to help me make it. So I thank God for leading me to it!
Thank you Dr Brewer!
