Dare To Be Active provides guided workouts by a physical therapist, Dr. Thoma Gustin, who combines her knowledge and skills as a physical therapist with years of experience at elite level training to bring you workouts that not only challenge you, but make movement more simple and approachable.

This app was developed with all levels of fitness in mind, with an added focus on beginners who may be entering the fitness world for the first time. Dr. Thoma Gustin has developed a 4 WEEK FUNDAMENTALS PROGRAM that focuses on learning some of the core movement patterns that are typically seen in most exercises in order to teach users how to perform these exercises correctly and with proper form. With the fundamental movement patterns down, users will not only have the proper tools for injury prevention but will also feel confident in progressing to more difficult exercises in the comfort of their own space.

Another goal of Dare To Be Active is to provide easy suggestions and solutions to increasing daily activity levels and preventing pain caused by immobility by providing videos that focus on posture, stretches you can do at your desk, and easy workouts you can do in the kitchen. The app will also start including videos on injury prevention and rehab of common musculoskeletal injuries.

So glad this app was created!
I have been wishing for a while now that I could learn proper form before exercising. The problem with most at home workouts is you are just supposed to follow along and you might not know if you are using proper form when trying to follow someone. L.A. breaks down every form and even provides three levels to choose from based on your body and experience. I am still recovering from lasting effects from two births and I need the modifications. Thank you LA, for creating this app so those of us who would not have otherwise been able to afford physical therapy and personal training can have access to your professional knowledge and guidance! I am so grateful and look forward to getting my body back into shape!

Love the workouts, the app could be better
I really like LA’s simple, low-fuss, form-focused style of workout and instruction. Taking structural care of my body and feeling strong just as important to me as looking good, and she is so good about illustrating proper form. Some of the workouts are a style in which she moves through a workout while providing instruction (I like these), some are timed and recorded chunks of video that seem built from a “moves library” (I don’t like these). There’s a decent variety of workout duration and targeted muscle groups. It seems like about half the videos on the app are also available for free on her channels, but it appears they’re adding more app-only videos somewhat regularly. The main issue I have is with the app itself — it’s buggy, clunky, not intuitive, and slow. It’s also not a terribly expensive app, compared to other trainers’ programs, so maybe we’re getting what we pay for? Unclear, but I’d really love to see a better designed interface to access LA’s helpful videos.

Effective workouts and thoughtful programming
The workouts and programming in this app are things I’ve been looking for for years. It’s physical therapy meets personal training and I truly don’t have enough good things to say! As someone who really enjoys movement but has been continually hampered by injuries, this app is helping me become more in shape and teaching me so much about my body and how to move correctly. Dr. Thoma makes the workouts fun and informative - and most importantly effective. The programming is so so thoughtful, each week is shaped to work the whole body, while also fitting in some really specific focuses that for me have been key to achieving the well-rounded strength in my body that helps prevent injury.

Love LA’s workouts!
Since the start of the pandemic I have been using LA’s home workouts to stay in shape at my own pace and comfort. I love that her workouts often don’t require special equipment, and that she has videos for all levels. My only feedback is that I would like to see an app or website that can be accessed on a desktop so that I can watch the videos on a larger screen to more easily see each exercise.

Doable and humane
I love this app. I think what I appreciate so much is that there is not a focus on appearance but instead of focus on getting stronger and feeling mentally great. Doing the 28 day challenge and I think it is perfect for someone like me who is getting back into exercising after a lull. LA is great at giving options and her background as a PT shines through- there’s a lot of emphasis on proper form which is so needed and is often missing from exercise apps.

perfect for my season of life
i have been following LA work outs since it was on just her instagram. i have always been a huge fan of being able to do all these work outs within 30 min and at home. it's perfect for my season of life. i like how they all aren't super high intensity so some days it's a stretch or a walk. others it's jumping and more intense.

and the calendar telling me what to do is really motivating for me because i don't want to miss one. nor do i have to come up with something to go.
i like her slow and controlled moves and some that are completely new to me. working multiple parts of the body in one work out.

i just canceled my gym membership to just do the app. its so much more attainable for me!

loveeee la’s workouts!!
I have been using dare to be active for about a year now and LA’s workouts are the only workouts that I enjoy. her workouts are so simple and she explains everything so clearly so it’s easy to understand! I do feel that the premium can be a bit pricey and there are only a few free workouts but I do think it’s worth it!

App crashes constantly
I like the app and would love to keep using it but it crashes every time! After about 1 min, it crashes regardless of what I do even after the updates

Love the app but
I wish I can get it on my MacBook Air. I would love to keep the app for the whole year but it’s hard working out from a small screen and nobody has address the issue for me. Love dr. La but the app needs some improvement in terms of conversion.
