Jake Bidwell,
Best 531 app out there
I’ve been using this app for the past three years training using the 5/3/1 program. Does the calculations so you can focus on getting stronger. Follows the program including the main variations. Allows custom assistance exercises to be added as well. All the typical tools like plate loader calculations are included. I really like the 1 rep max and volume graphs to show progress too. My only recommendations would be:
1. Allow negative weight numbers for beginners on body weight exercises like band-assisted dips and band-assisted pull ups,
2. Add an option to record zero reps to allow failures on the last set of the 5/3/1 week, and
3. If a zero is recorded on that final set, add an option to automatically adjust down your training max per the Wendler calculations.
Even without these upgrades, it’s a great app. Money well spent.
Ottakoti,
Quirks and Bugs but overall good
I will give it a 4. Could have been much better. The asistance exercise list is not large enough. There is not even a bent over row listed. So when I try to add one to the list it doesn't except, gives me an error pop up for a millisecond that I can not even read. Also when I went into settings to see if the assistance exercise list would change to change the template, all my recorded exercises are gone from the previous sessions. I have to now setup all new assistance exercises for the routines. When you by mistake save a session well good luck, it seems like there is no turning back. You should be able to go to calendar and delete that session. Other quirks exist. It is a good and simple app but can be definitely a lot better. Make user interface that data can be added or taken out, and if a session is not saved intentionally give the option to re-do the session.
RyGuy1860,
Mostly this app is terrific
I use it religiously based on a buddy who went through a total transformation. I'm 44 and I am much stronger, get serious complements (yes, I'm not shallow, but I do like affirmation), and in general, the way this app works, including adding my own exercises is excellent. There are lots of settings, but the basic function is great. I've been using this app for about 1 year plus. Bench from 185 to 290 (Max stat)...so doing 225 doesn't scare me now. Deadlifts from 0 to 335. Overhead press 95 to 123...but that was with a 4 month downtime for injury. Squat, similarly from nearly nothing to 295. Here is what I want to see improve: 1. Sometimes the weight counter randomly counts up until I exit; if I delete an exercise, i marks other exercises as bold/not done. 2. Bodyweight exercises?? 3. Apple watch? <-- this would be great.
unbroken atom,
Pretty good
Says it has apple watch support. I have a suunto though not an apple watch so I don't care about that. Wish the assistance exercises were part of the program you pay for but I can live without them and just do them myself. Overall it's a good app and I like it better than some others I've tried. Few things here and there that could be better but overall well built app that allows you to get work done and keep track of your progress. One thing that does kind of annoy me is that if you are adding reps on your last set and you needed 8 reps to beat your 1RM but you only did 7 reps but accidentally hit 8 it will give you a star with your new 1RM but when you back it down to 7 it doesn't take that away. It's like once you hit it you hit it. Paid for the main app after trial but won't pay for assistance exercises or for Apple watch support. They are not worth it IMO.

Best 5/3/1 out there
I wanted to use it a while before writing a review. I am extremely impressed by the functionality and ease of use of this app. I have documented months of 5/3/1 lifting sessions and tried about every option with success.
You can make any exercise be the 5/3/1 scheme which is cool, I’m thinking of doing that for barbell rows.
It works well and even syncs to Apple Health to help track calories.
You can even create a custom entire day if you want to, using the 5/3/1 scheme or not if you do choose. I made “Bench day 2” for example.

One upgrade may be to integrate the watch and phone better so the watch can track while the phone can edit the routine as needed. Not a big deal. With the watch design it’s hard to see what’s coming up next so you can set up and hit your rest periods on time. I usually just use the phone version.

Also a reminder for your plus sets (5+, 3+, 1+, etc) with a “+” may be helpful. I did it wrong the first week and forgot the AMRAP + sets.
These things are super minor and do not significantly detract from the app whatsoever. Very good product! Good customer support also with prompt replies.
Zentuitive,
Very responsive
I’ve used this app for a couple of years and have loved it. Well worth upgrading too. Yesterday (Saturday) I was having difficulty matching one of the main lifts with the appropriate Boring But Big lift. When I would choose the bench press main lift, the app would crash every time. So, I sent an email to the developer about the issue. Surprisingly, for a Saturday, I unexpectedly received a quick reply. And today, (Sunday) I received another email that the bug had been fixed, and to download the updated version. I did, and the app works perfectly now. I’m writing this review because I think excellent customer service should be recognized.
ssd0pe,
I love the app!
This app has allowed me to spend more time focusing on my progress rather than calculating my lifts. It is a must have for 5/3/1. I recommend purchasing the pro addition and assisted workouts. These features allow you to easily track your progress as you complete each workout and every workout is customizable through the app. I have tried other 5/3/1 apps and I find this one to be the most user friendly once you have the system down. Just remember that you track activity as you complete it. You do not load future workouts. You can also play with the future main set feature to see how much you will be lifting while completing a specific cycle. 💪🏽 👍🏽
Tmckaz,
Now it is a five+
Developer responded to my review with a little insider info, “Long press on the weight amount and a box will pop where you can enter weight in digits!”

Old review: Would have been 5 stars but the only way to change the weight in a lift is by using the +\- at .5 increments! Might be away to adjust the rate of change in the settings but haven’t found it.

The authors get major props for the options and functionality they built into this thing!
dannykimchi,
Very nice but not perfect
For the purpose, it’s very straight forward.
I have two issues however,
1. When tracking progress, the line graphs do not have any dates on the x-axis so you may see progress, but not the time it took to get there.
2. For any workout that has accessory exercises that were not done, but present (not grayed out upon completion), it’ll show up in the history as completed. Would be nice for this to be omitted as to track when a specific accessory exercise was done rather than having to manually add/delete accessory exercises every time
amato024,
Very good app but needs some stuff
I paid for the full app and the accessory sets and I’ve used it every time I’ve been to the gym since. Great for tracking sets, weight, and rest. Glad I bought. A couple things I hope that gets added: 1) a workout log so you can see past workout numbers; and 2) ability to edit past workouts.

The new update also brought a bug whereby if you press the subtract weight button, the app crashes. Increasing or manually inputting weight still works
